What a gem...

Browsing the marketplace, looking at the higher-end (ratings) of the games on demand. Stumbled into Sacred 2: Fallen Angel. Man, this game is an absolute gem. Everything from the campy CGI intro to the infinite depth of the gameplay systems--I'm probably 40 hours into the game, and I still feel like I don't understand everything.

The game has such a uniquely European charm; I mean:
a) I discovered that there's a certain class customization option that breaks the game completely--permanently making you invisible, akin to the Oblivion perma-stealth
b) rather than fixing certain broken professions, the game developer simply removed them
c) some of the clothing options look ridiculous--in the most comical ways
d) your character's unique commentary on combat scenarios feature some golden examples of horrid voice acting

Ugh! I love it. 40 hours in and I'm about 30% through the content. I'm level 26 (of a 200 level cap). Honestly, if anyone has $24.99 to spend, I'd highly recommend this massive, open-world, Diablo-styled RPG. What a gem.

What did you pick it up for? PC? 360? PS3?
Currently playing the first Sacred on my laptop, and I love it. Some great writing that clearly breaks the 4th wall.

Edit: Marketplace, 360, duh!

Picked it up on the 360, via their Games of Demand service. Controls work shockingly well--I mean, it's no Dragon Age. You don't need precise forms of crowd control, etc. to get through the game. Just big fireballs or (in my case) hordes of zombies and spirit minions to destroy everything on screen.

Well now this sounds much more interesting to me rather than people just saying it's a pile of shit and I should avoid it. It just sounds like a good old fashioned dumb ass game.

I'm all for dumb games, plus this seems like something I could get for cheap on PC.

@wolf_blitzer85: Oh, I don't think it's a piece of shit. I think it's a well designed, complex RPG for anyone who's looking for that sort of thing. I mean, it's not exploding with production values, but like I said, the developers do care. And there's a fair bit of humour.

It's a divisive game, for sure. If you skip along to the metacritic score, you'll see a 71. 1UP--arguably the most credible RPG reviewer around--gave it a 91; whereas, sites like IGN gave it a 6.5. I obviously stand on the higher end of the camp.

I figure I should also add that this game features (console) split-screen co-op, as well as up to 4-player online co-op where you bring your character in other players' worlds.

@wolf_blitzer85:

Got it for the PS3, beat it once but got burned out. The combat seems geared for a mouse and keyboard set up.

A lot of quirks that make it feel like they didn't fully optimized it for the consoles.

So the PC version probably is the way to go.

@project343: I just meant to say that it's refreshing to see someone enjoying the game. I've been on the edge of buying this game, and hearing all that just sounds like something I could totally get into. The fact that it's kinda like Diablo gives it more than enough sway for me.

Have you gotten to the quest where you have to help the band find their instruments?  That one's the best.

I enjoyed Sacred 2 on both PC and 360.  And it's a decent little co-op game to play too.

@melcene: I have! It's wonderful. Sort of took me by surprise. I also love how that song gets intertwined with the combat music during epic fights. Haha.

After the video ended, I couldn't help but think: wow, this game is so German. I mean, where else would you find a fully animated performance of an epic metal song right in the middle of a fantasy RPG?
