Razorburn2021: Best of 2009

List items

  • Flawed though it may be, particularly in the visuals dept. I cannot deny how swept up in this game I was. Admittedly, I played it on the 360 and am well aware of the PC's superiority.

  • It's said a lot about different download only games, but Shadow Complex took a huge step in showing us just what can be given in "bite-sized" chunks. An addictive and well-crafted homage to Metroidvania games of yester year. A great game of chasing upgrades, achievement leaderboards, and super-achievements. Looking very much forward to a sequel.

  • Unbelievable coop experience. Fun. Campy. Chris Redfields roidtastic guns are awesome. Nice bonus. All good things.

  • Guilty pleasure. Guiltiest of pleasures. This game deserves to be on the Best Of list, like Robocop deserves to be watched. It really is kind of a huge feat that a game with such an awesomely bad premise turned out to, mechanically, actually be a pretty good damned time.

  • Not a crazy fan of the Beatles, and rhythm games in general have worn a bit thin on me, but this game deserves a great deal of praise for being the classiest rhythm game I've ever experienced. Feels more like interactive archival materials than a game.

  • The design of the world and the characters is instantly charming. Unfortunately, all of that kind of drops off early in the game. Fortunately, the tight gameplay, addictive gun-chasing, well-balanced rpg elements, and solid coop more than make up for that.

  • Guilty pleasure action movie placed within a well-made FPS. Excellent carrot-led multiplayer that actually got this old man to play with randoms for the first time in years. Haven't even touched the coop yet & love this game.

  • Visually stunning. Decent gameplay. Deserves to be on this list because it felt good, as a disenfranchised Star Wars fan, to play a competent SW game outside of popular continuity which added to the overall lore in ways that prequels could not.

  • Amazing all-around. Great atmosphere. Didn't feel hokey or unlike the source material. Great gadgets. Unparalleled voice acting. Can't wait of the sequel.

  • Highly addictive, charming Diablo clone. Skates so close to the edge of Diablo that you can't believe it's not Blizzard! Still, very well crafted. Feels like a warm nostalgic blanket.
