Sometimes, for seemingly no reason, the site displays in a small box at the side of my browser window. When this happens, it happens for the entirety of the session, and only rectifies when I close the browser and re-open it. It looks something exactly like this:

I'm using chrome version 8.0.552.28 Beta on Windows 7 64bit.

Whoa there people, stop looking for mystical 'trolls' to jump on at every opportunity. Duder just made a (very easy to make) mistake!

As an aside: I'm a hero!

@Diamond: I never played Marathon so I can't comment on that game specifically, but was there every really any reason to explore in those old games? Don't you just truck towards your next point? Sure, there's weapon caches or super secret diamond skulls and stuff, but that jazz is all in, say, MW2 (albeit in the form of Laptops; far less interesting than diamond skulls), and you often have to go a fair bit off the beaten track to find them. To generalise wildly, I'd say that in going from point A to B in (to stick to the game I've been mentioning a lot) MW2, you've as much choice as you do in going from A to B in, lets say, Doom. Of course, you could take a super crazy out-of-the-way path in Doom, but it wouldn't really help you in any meaningful way.

The difference is, when you reach point B in doom, you're turnt around and sent back into the exact same Maze, whereas in MW2 you're packed off to the next little area. Each area is much smaller than a Doom level, but in total, I reckon there's just as much to explore. I guess it just comes down to which you prefer, and if you prefer the doom style that's fair enough; My point is, I don't think you can say that map design has deteriorated. It's just changed. On top of all this, as pointed out, MW2 is by no means the best example, and yet I still think it holds up. Look at Fallout 3 or something similar, and the argument that map design has gone downhill deteriorates entirely, I believe.

Obviously, I may just feel this way as I prefer the new 'linear' style, but I think there's at least some merit in the new style.

" Check for "Kindle" on Tested. They have some in-depth looks and comparisons between it and the Nook. I can give you a bit of info on them...  -Good refresh rate -Large collection of public domain books for free -easy to buy new things -full keyboard makes surfing internet easier -good battery life -there may be a backlight, not too sure.  Really, the biggest con is that it uses a proprietary format, so other ebooks you have may not work on it. You'd have to download them again as a Kindle app. "
I have a kindle, and trust me- proprietary formatting isn't an issue. A quick google of every single e-book format I've come across comes up with guides to convert it to a Kindle-friendly format. It's not quite as simple as just dragging it onto the kindle, but it's not so complicated that it's an issue.

I say buy a kindle. I love mine. Got me back into reading.

I genuinely didn't know the new xboxs red-ringed. Red-Runged?

Also, is it 4 lights flashing? Because if so, that ain't a red ring. Just push the video output cable in a bit more firmly.

I see the picture, but I don't see the issue. What people forget is that in the older games (labelled 1993 in that image) you're backtracking back and forth across that map about a million times to get blue keys, guns, or hit switches. The 2010 sends you the same distance, but with new and fresh content at each bend and/or event, making it, potentially, far less repetitive, far more interesting and just... better. For one thing, each section of the new maps use new assets, whereas in 1993 maps were made with tiles. Not to mention the image is grossly oversimplified. Take MW2 levels, for example. Sure, you were going in one direction, but the 'corridors' were not that tight and confined as the image there suggests. You had open areas to pick your route through and negotiate around, with multiple paths through. It's essentially the same as the 1992 map you present to us, only you only have to go through it ONCE, before being presented with dozens, if not hundreds more as the game progresses. In 1993, that map was all you got per level, and you just have to mill around backtracking and looking about.

Personally, I believe this is just a case of nostalgia tinting everybody's goggles rose-red.

In stark contrast to seemingly everyone else, I'm finding Rock Band 3 (Expert Guitar/Bass) quite a bit harder. I could play every song in Rock Band 2 without failing (sometimes Visions got me, but basically I could beat it) and even got Gold Stars on Green Grass and High Tides, but I've been finding some of the later RB3 songs super tough. That Llama one, for example, is nothing short of a bastard, and there are at least 3 more that I've yet to get through without someone saving me.
