Love this show. And yea, giantbomb as a website is pretty good with the dark patterns. For one, your 'I refuse all cookies' thing is surprisingly not annoying and even pretty informative!
Love this show, it's really well researched and super interesting. It feels like a shame you guys only post these on the website and not youtube or somewhere more accessible to a larger audience. But you probably know better than me if it would be worth doing that. This episode especially feels like a great way to educate those less well versed in the scammy, darker side of the internet.
The voting form doesn't work for me. I assume I'm supposed to search for games in those numbered text fields, but I can't actually type anything or search for anything. It just says "No selection" in each of them.
Which is fine. Scrolling through the games that came out this year, there's lots of games that probably would make my top 10, but I realize I can barely fill a top 5 with the new releases I've played this year. And not all of those would even make the list.
1. The Forgotten City, 2. Metroid Dread. 3. Maybe Monster Hunter Rise. That's my 2021 list.
Most of what I've played has been 2020 and older I guess. Curse of the Infinite Steam Backlog.
This was really good! Good review and good essay on the current state of reviews in general.
I still find the old school written review useful when it's for smaller games I wouldn't have found out about through their online presence and marketing budget. Random smaller indie games that sites like RockPaperShotgun regularly cover. It's useful to have someone curate those and give advice to figure out what's worth buying. And for those games I prefer scrolling through a written article/review for a few minutes over having to watch half an hour of video per game.
Giantbomb does cover some of the smaller games in the podcast and quick looks. But not as much, and in a less convenient format to me personally.
But yea, for bigger games like Halo Infinite, I'm definitely good with just the quick looks and podcast discussions. Written reviews don't add much here.

After dropping a negative comment on Reel Layers, I figured I should comment here to let you guys know how much I'm loving this show. Really enjoying these talks.
Yeah this did nothing for me. I get that it's a bit, some sort of parody of video essays, and that the confused audience response is part of the joke. And I love that Giantbomb is trying weird new things. But it fell completely flat for me. It's just a dude doing a voice while reading a bad video essay.
It's fine if others did enjoy it, I wish I did, I like enjoying things!
