Personally this hasn't been a very good gaming year for me because I don't have a gaming PC or a switch. Can't think of a single game I played that didn't have some sort of major issue... Well, except re7. That game is pretty awesome.
Persona 5 is GotY in the same way Trump was person of the year when he was elected president. Maybe it's not actually the best game, but it's the most apt for the year we had. It's portrayal of the abuse of power in all levels of society in the context of 2017 transcends the importance of any other game released this year. It's a bit sad that no one seems to recognize this.
The music of nier is, unquestionably, the thing about that game that has no drawbacks whatsoever. It's able to perfectly fit niers mishmash of aesthetics/sensibilities, yet stands on its own as something genuinely great.
I lost my copy of P.T. when I sent my ps4 in to get fixed. It still perplexes me that konami took it down, and probably won't ever re-release it. Borderline tragic
