Oh man, never doing that again...

Last night I went to the beach with a couple of friends to get drunk and take a midnight swim... naked, of course. That was the most fun I've had in a long time, it's just that I somehow got a hold of some weird beer/white wine mixture that's been kicking my brain's ass for the last 24 hours. Here's a public service announcement: Stick with one drink through the night, and don't go crazy with cocktails!

To my surprise, Midnight Brown is actually really good

So I was snooping through Jeff Gerstmann's profile and found out that he's in a band, and at first I thought: "Hmm, must have been one of those pet projects everyone has, probably not worth looking into." And that was that, until last night when I checked out some of their stuff on Youtube, and holy mother of God, are these guys rockin'! I knew Jeff had a golden voice, but damn, I wasn't expecting anything of this caliber, and the other guy who's name escapes me isn't bad either. Just goes to show that there are still multi-talented people hidden all around the world, I suppose.

These two are probably my favourites, but I've fallen in love with all their songs. What do you guys think about them?

It's kind of funny how attached to these things I become

I got my avatar from Chrono Cross, a game that I really love, but that isn't necessarily the best in the world, and I'm not all that attached to the character of Lynx himself, and yet I just can't see myself changing it. It's become fixed in my mind as the picture I use on Giantbomb, so even if I find some other great avatar material such as this,

A lovely image of a breadmaker

I just can't find the heart to change persona, so to speak. My only hope is that somebody else will make good use of this stupendous image that I found, and that he bring joy and goodwill toward men.

Serendipitous numbers make everything better

I've just reached 775 wiki points, which brought a great big stupid grin to my face as I recall way back when that illegal amount of money was first brought up. Every so often even random series of numbers can make someones day that much brighter. :)

Bummed by the heat

It's hot outside, and inside too. Mosquitoes everywhere. There was an electrical surge and my computer fried, and my new Xbox 360 was delayed in the mail. Also, my favourite pizza place closed unexpectedly, apparently the owners couldn't afford to pay rent.

At least I've got SMT: Strange Journey to keep me sane!

Yo, what's up with game design?

I think that an excess of information can be detrimental to the enjoyment of many games. This gets us in two ways:

  1. Thanks to over-abundant media coverage,  we already know what the game's about, who the main character is, what kind of gameplay we'll experience way before the game is even released. Now I know that if trailers don't show the game off they won't be very successful, and if I just don't follow up on a game it'll end up being a surprise for me, but in our day and age information is hard to avoid.
  2. In-game tutorials and waypoints becoming constant annoyances rather than helpful reminders. Take Alan Wake, for example; there's never a time in that game that you're truly lost in the woods. And as we all know Final Fantasy XIII takes it's tutorial practically through the whole story.
My point is, whatever happened to the mystique of older titles, like Zelda II: The Adventure of Link? That game had no map, no tutorial, all it's story was explained in an instruction manual, it allowed the player to discover it without telling him anything extra.

I can perfectly understand that the industry has changed significantly in it's way of doing things, and that it's become a necessity to maintain a solid exchange of information between the game and the player, but why is it that newer games seem so unwilling to let the player simply explore and take matters into his own hands? And just a word of advice, the next time you have the chance, buy yourself a game that you know absolutely nothing about; that's how I got Chrono Cross and Persona 3, after all!

Damn it!

Forgot to post my status yesterday, I was at 20 days! Now I'll just have to wait another month to get that quest, it better be worth it...

Just got back from a convention.

I've got to say, for such a small place we had a really nice convention going on here in Forli, lot's of interesting stuff for sale, but the best part for me was the cosplaying. I didn't get any pictures of the people there, unfortunately, but here's a picture from before the event. Bleach is really big here in Italy, and most of the cosplayers were duplicates of those characters. My friend here was doing Isshin Kurosaki, it wasn't too bad in person.

Quests have given a new meaning to my life, and so can you!

Ever since they've been out I've taken a lot more time to look at all the pages and pages of information that's stored here, and I'm really amazed at the quality and quantity of articles and such. Before, all I did was look at the news and watch the videos, and while I still love them I've realized that I can do so much more, especially on such a (relatively) small website such as this. It's the first time that I've looked at an internet community and not seen just faces, but people I can relate to and that are not quite so dissimilar to me. It's enough to have me give the new quest feature 5 stars out of 5, wonderful job and keep up the good work!  (Even though I'll keep on obsessing about that limited edition quest I didn't snag, drat)
