My gaming plan for the rest of 2011...

This has been a decent year for gaming so far. I have picked up Dead Space 2 (which I loved), Stacking and You Don't Know Jack (for the wife), and Bulletstorm (a huge disappointment/at least I can play the Gears 3 beta early).

Today on PSN the SOCOM 4 beta releases and I am looking forward in getting to play it. I have never played a SOCOM game before but this looks very good. Unfortunately the beta only lasts a week so I plan on playing it as much as possible. As soon as the SOCOM 4 beta is over I will wait another week and get my hands on the Gears 3 beta. The Gears beta lasts roughly a month and that is all that I will be playing. During the Gears 3 beta Portal 2 and SOCOM 4 will be releasing so I will have to pick up both of those if SOCOM 4's beta is pretty good. Portal 2 will give me roughly 6 hours of single player and 6 hours of co-op multiplayer (not really sure on replay value, only played the 1st portal 1 time through). SOCOM 4 should be my multiplayer game of the summer but if the game flops I don't know what I will be playing; maybe a XBLA game or something new that catches my eye.

In September I am going to purchase Gears 3 and it will take over my gaming life until November when Uncharted 3 releases. I have read that Battlefield 3 is also supposed to release the same day as Uncharted 3 but I really hope not. It is hard buying two games at once and having to choose which to play. It looks like the 2nd half of 2011 in video gaming is going to be way better then the 1st.

I looked at the main paragraph and all I could see was SOCOM.

It makes me sad not to see Mass Effect 3 on your to-do-list. =(

My big disappointment is that most or all of the games that I'm looking forward to are going to be either Holiday 2011 or pushed out to 2012.

Since I work fifty hours a week, and the rest of my free time I get to spend taking care of my niece and nephew through June (which I'm actually doing right now), I'm kinda glad all the good games don't come out till the latter half of the year. Except for LA Noire. I really need to reserve some time to play that.

trying to find the video now.
I am pretty sure a dev said on gttv that the sp was roughly 6 hours and the mp was roughly 6 hours.

My plan is to buy Shogun 2 after my exams, and then play DE:HR in August.

Besides LA: Noire there really isn't much else I want to play tbh...

Edit: The Witcher 2, as well. Game look sick... and Portal 2.

Okay, there might end up being quite a lot I want to play.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. I remember getting at least 6 hours out of portal 1 and was ok with that because I got it in the orange box.

It is good to have a gaming plan.  I can pick the games I would be more likely to play in turn saving me a ton of money on my car insurance.

I'm uncertain who said it (though I have a feeling it may have been Cliffy B), but the notion that a game is only worthwhile if it lends itself to a 12-15 hour experience needs to get shaken.

Surely a distilled, 6-hour experience is favourable to an artificially drawn-out counterpart, if all of those 6 hours are first-rate.

I've had to shorten my year to only 3 games; Catherine, Portal 2 and Witcher 2 because I need to save money for doctors and shit.

Oh I agree, and I know for a fact that I will be playing both the coop and single player multiple times, I was just expecting an 8 hour single player experience. Valve still has my money, there is no doubt about that.
