So hyped! I've slowed down a bit making my way through the JoJo manga, but hopefully I'll be done with Stone Ocean (or close to it) by the time I get this. Regardless, choosing characters is going to be a nightmare. All of them look so great!

So how many times do you guys generally watch an anime that you really like? I'm just wondering if it's weird to, say, watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood for the fourth time. Keep in mind that I've also seen the original about as many times.

Definitely not weird, but I find that nowadays I generally rewatch anime much less. When I was getting into this anime nonsense, access was more limited than it is now -- stuff on TV, DVDs I could afford only every so often and scattered stuff in my county's public library system. (Thankfully, I was not part of the generation that had to trade tapes and shit to see new anime!) So I rewatched a ton of stuff just because there was nothing else I could do; you got by with what you got on TV and what you could afford. Now, it's incredibly easy to get anime from whatever point in history, so I stick to stuff I haven't seen before unless it's a special occasion and/or I'm watching with other people.

Also, I definitely have to back up the Hunter x Hunter recs, for both the old series and the new one airing on Crunchyroll right now. Both take some interesting approaches with similar material and are worth watching if you're interested in how direction and whatnot can affect adaptation. The new series has surpassed the old one both in terms of length and overall greatness, though.

Jesus. I came home from running a couple of errands, and then ... this. Fucking heartbreaking. It says a lot about Ryan that so many people who knew him solely through the website are so devastated -- the impact he had on his friends and family must have been manyfold. I'll miss you, Ryan.

Almost caught up on Hunter X Hunter.

No Caption Provided

When I think of how this series started and how much it's changed, I just shake my head. I love it.

Hell yeah, Hunter x Hunter has been damn good for a long while now. I'm excited to be watching stuff I've never seen before now!

I was unemployed for a year right out of college -- not a fun time! (Not that I take offense at you looking on the bright side a bit with your unemployment experience, mind.) It was pretty demoralizing to put four years (and a summer internship) of work into getting a degree and then immediately sit on my ass for a year because nobody wanted to hire me. Maybe it would have been better if I actually lived somewhere not boring, though, haha.

Anna, because I love all her goofy one-liners when she crits enemies.

JoJo episode 20 was one of the best episodes of anything I've seen. Really fantastic directing and sound/music work. And actual real animation too. And manly tears. Also disco bubbles.

Those fuckin' disco bubbles. So great.

A friend and I watched all of AKB0048's first season recently, and that shit is so great. I'm hyped to start the second season soon; that might be the only show right now that can challenge JoJo as my favorite anime currently airing. Even beyond lightsaber microphones, pop star androids with wrist-mounted rocket launchers and paramilitary fan clubs, I actually give a shit about what's going on, which is mildly mind-boggling to me. What a series!
