@beaudacious: Spoilers man. I've only played the first mission and toyed around with the base for a minute. I hadn't heard that twist yet. I know, XCom =/= story to you, but some people like to have fun with it.

Sounds like they're making the Doom comic's interpretation of Doom into a game.

There was actually an experiment with an entire website based off this idea earlier in the 00's. While the site is gone, you can see it in the Wayback Machine.

http://web.archive.org/web/20040125232223/http://www.alloutgames.com/

Lets just say the site crashed and burned pretty hard. The idea of tolerance eventually worked against the site as the heterosexual crowd felt like they were being pushed against by some of the staff (who were admittedly militant).

@1ntrinsicator: You just described another game, Sacrifice, and it's completely awesome. I'm not totally sure about how much it's played today though. It's on Good Old Games if anyone's curious. The game is more than worth a look.

So, Brutal Legend isn't even completely unique on that front and there's no way it tops Sacrifice in terms of gameplay. It sort of just got off on copying the gameplay of an obscure gem.

I don't think most chapters are against it, although some would definitely have issues depending on who they were working with. For example, Blood Ravens would probably have to be wary of Black Templars as the Blood Ravens supposedly make heavy use of pyskers, something the Black Templar are completely against (to the point of attacking other Imperial forces).

I think what happens more is that chapters only come together occasionally as there are relatively few Space Marines across a huge galaxy. Bunching up leaves other areas undefended and even then many Chapters are spread out from each other. It's a rare enough event to have a Space Marine show up, let allone groups from two chapters. The only reason it doesn't seem that way is because most stories focus on the Space Marines.

Yeah, the Blood Ravens mentioned the Black Templars had come to the aid of the planet as well. They do have wandering crusades, so a group may have been in the area.

Spoilers get a wee bit bigger.

It's strange that they would be willing to accompany the Inquisitor though. Typically, the Black Templars are not willing to work with the In Inquisition as they don't exactly play by the rules Space Marines are supposed to follow and generally view the Inquisition as corrupt. At the same time they absolutely abhor and sort of trickery or witchcraft, so the thought that Space Marine captain could be touched by the warp would probably be enough for them want to take him down. I could also see them happy that an Ultramarine hogging the Inquisitors attention as opposed to the Inquisitor watching them.

Many Inquisitors make use of heavy cybernetics to increase their physical abilities or even to just make themselves more intimidating. It's not as good as being a Space Marine, but it can do the trick. Drogan did have a bionic arm, so many other parts of his body were replaced as well.

As a side note, Space Marines don't become Inquisitors and vise versa. While there a sort of exchange program that will have individual Space Marines temporarily work under the Inquisition (the Deathwatch), there's something of a separation of power that keeps Space Marine's from holding power like that of an Inquisitor. In fact, both are generally prone to mistrusting the other. Many Space Marine chapters have something to hide from the Inquisition and will often do their best to keep them at a distance.

I'm a geologist. It's my job to look at the ground and it's job I enjoy.

Most people take it for granted, but there's a good deal of history out there. Even with just a few rocks you can start to see how things were in the past and it really doesn't take all that much background knowledge to get a decent grasp of the basics. The hard part is finding a decent teacher since learning rock identification from a book tends to be difficult for most people.
