Weekly Rundown - 07/04-07/10

Games this week:

  • Xbox 360      - F.E.A.R. 3
  • Playstation 3 - Dragon Age: Origins, Infamous
  • Playstation 2 - Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
  • Nintendo Wii  - Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon

I completely forgot to mention that this one might go up late.  I was out of town this weekend and just didn't feel like typing it up last night.  Anyway, it's a short one this week, mostly because I've already said most of what's to be said about these games.

Still working on those Trophies in Infamous.  Some of those stunts are wicked difficult to pull off.  I was mostly stuck on Have A Nice Fall, but, finally got it.

Didn't play a lot of Dragon Age: Origins.  Early in the week I kept dying on this side quest and I just put it down.  Eventually I'll pick it back up and go to the main storyline for now and come back to that sidequest later.

Beat Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII.  Everything I have previously said stands.  Also, the ending is completely retarded.  The gameplay is interspersed several times, literally after only playing for a minute sometimes, with cut scenes showing the action instead of playing it.  And, SPOILER: Hojo's consciousness is the internet.  It's completely absurd.

Played more of Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon.  I'm still not sure how I feel about it.  But I'll play it for an hour and a half and have it feel like only five or ten minutes has passed, for whatever that means about the game.  The camera control is definitely icky, at least for the combat.  It's controlled by pointing to the side of the screen to spin it and look up and down.  It's fine, but not preferable, for the exploring, but definitely a poor choice for combat.  The largest problem may be the flashlight aspect going wonky at times and not lighting up an area you're looking at because you're too close to it and it's pushing the light beyond it instead of directly in front of you.  But the atmosphere is intriguing and I'm super curious about what exactly happened to this world.

And the most played game this week is easily F.E.A.R. 3.  Started and finished the campaign this week. There is about six to eight hours of campaign I'd suppose, depending on your commitment to exploration.  I think I'll write up a full review for it once I've mucked about with the multiplayer, but I'll talk a little bit here.  In a sentence, the gameplay is fun and works, but the narrative is kind o' dumb and not scary at all.  And I loved the addition of experience points and a leveling system instead of finding Boosters throughout the levels a lot.
