Final Fantasy, from most enjoyed to least

As the title says, here is a list of the Final Fantasy games in order of how much I liked them. Still have to play V, VI, VIII, and IX. I will probably never play XI.

List items

  • It's really close between this as VII. Let's call it a tie. I just listed III first because it's numerically early and I've actually beaten it.

  • Great game. Need to finally sit down and beat it one of these days. I stopped the first time when Aeris died and came back a month or two later going, "What the hell was I doing? Shit." Restarted it later and hit a rare bug where you get trapped in the prison before you visit Golden Saucer and are thus unable to talk to the guy who let's you ride chocobos to freedom. Shit, son.

  • The story has it's moments, both good and bad. Blitzball kinda sucks but if you give it a chance it actually becomes a little addictive. The overall gameplay is a lot of fun. If I recall correctly, it has some nice puzzles in it too, which are a definite plus for me.

  • Nice story and solid gameplay. Wish Cecil didn't take a huge fucking level drop when he goes Paladin, though. Shit sucked. I want my evil Cecil back!

  • An oldy but a goody. He's the granddaddy of RPGs and he deserves your respect, goddammit.

  • Story is meh, but I have a lot of fun with the combat system, so whatever. It's flashy and sexy and fun and that's about it. But I don't always mind that.

  • Why does Vaan exist? I don't care about him at all. I also connected very little with Ashe and her plight that was the whole focus of the narrative. If this game was all about Balthier and Fran being badass sky pirates, I would like it a lot more. The combat was okay, I guess. I don't entirely dig the whole MMO feel, though.

  • I plan on going back some day and trying this game out again. It could prove to be fun, I dunno. At the time, I was expecting more FFX. Instead, I got this J-Pop shit that seemed to lack a good, cohesive storyline. I suppose Yuna was hot, but then ugh! She's the sweet summoner princess, not some sexy, kawaii pop star. What the fuck did you do to Yuna? Meanwhile, Rikku was way better before she went all Captain Sparrow on us.

  • Referring specifically to Final Fantasy II. It's at the bottom because it is fucking broken. It tried something new and interesting and I'll give it credit for that, but it failed. THey even tried to fix some of it for this GBA release and it still fucking failed. At one point, I was getting in to fights with weak enemies and then attacking myself so that I could improve my HP. This was the point when I decided it was no longer fun and turned the game off for good. Maybe I will beat it some day... Maybe...
