Candidates for 2010 GOTY

I often forget about the games released early in the year, and only focus on the games released in the holiday season. This list is to help remind me of the great games in the year as they happen.

List items

  • Making your choices meaningful by keeping track of your previous game and carrying them through. Fantastic story and characters -- Shepard is a bad ass.

  • Very few, good, wild west era games. Story is generic, but the ending makes up for it greatly. Varying game play in an engrossing world that is made believable...until you are faced with the inevitable bugs.

  • Same generic story, but you get more Mario Galaxy and you can't complain about that. Levels are far more absurd, making the platforming more engaging and exciting.

  • Truly an engaging story, that made me heavily weigh every decision I made, unsure of the potential outcome. People will often argue that it has its plot holes and awkward controls, but that doesn't detract from the unique experience the game provides.

  • Expanding on an already great fighting game and adding to it. The new characters fit in exceptionally well, while the old ones still get enough tweaks so they don't get left out. Launching at only $40, original SFIV owners get enough new content to justify the purchase and new players get a great value.

  • Short and sweet, THIS YEARS BRAID !@!@#@! LOLZ

  • Long overdue -- the single player really distinguished itself from its genre. Every mission feeling unique and engaging. And that's just the single player, the multi player is every bit as competitive and deep as you'd like it to be.
