Games I'm trying to track down for my collection

I've recently become interested in collecting some video games which I particularly adore (mainly retro games). Although I've been making decent headway in putting together the pieces of my past, there are some games which I've been trying to track down for a long time with little luck. In some cases, this is because the game is genuinely difficult to locate, be it due to a limited print run, localization issues or something as simple as very few copies standing the test of time. In other cases, the game isn't particularly rare, I just haven't gotten around to getting it yet.

In other cases, the game's price has been artificially inflated due to it being a particularly prized piece of gaming history. In these cases, it's not so much difficult to locate in general, as it is to locate for a reasonable price (paying a lot of money for a mint copy of Chrono Trigger is one thing, but $150 for a beat up copy with a tattered box is a bit ridiculous).

Anyway, with that being said, here is the top shelf of wanted games for my collection.

List items

  • More specifically, this refers to the original Super NES version of the game. Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre is one of my favorite franchises of all time, with this game being one of the forerunners. Unfortunately, due to a very limited print run (approximately 25,000 copies), it has become absurdly difficult to locate in North America (at the time of this writing, there are no north american copies on ebay.ca). I've been trying to track down a great quality complete in box copy of this game for quite some time, but have had little luck in doing so.

  • Panzer Dragoon Saga is an amazing game that unfortunately did not receive much opportunity to succeed. This was due to a forced early retirement caused by being released at the end of the Saturn's lifetime, in addition to a limited print run (approximately 30,000 copies). Although there are a surprising number of sellers for the game, this has a lot to do with the fact that it goes for so much. A used copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga in good shape will cost several hundred dollars. Well worth it in my opinion.

  • Earthbound is a good game. Of course, many people realize this and that's the reason why it costs such a ridiculous amount today. Earthbound didn't necessarily have an extremely small print run like the above mentioned games, but due to a very high demand to play this game (the only member of the Mother series to make it to US audiences), this game can fetch over $100 for just a loose cart. Find a complete in box copy of the game and you can easily find yourself paying 3x that.

  • One of my favorite games for the PS1, Vagrant Story is a true classic of the system. Blending action and RPG elements, Vagrant Story has a very unique battle system that is quite complex. Add in one of the greatest stories ever conceived and you have a game that could be a great addition to any collection.
