Sure, I always let the ladies get off/on the bus or through doorways first. and stuff. Most of them smile. 
When I walk on the street, people have a tendency to give me a quick stern/frightened glance and then avoiding looking at me at all. I've even had people walk to the other side of the street, and then walk back across once they passed me. haha. Some people are too mistrusting of the world. Maybe it's the long hair, the beard and the mostly black clothes. And no I'm not goth or emo, fuck those types.

Sure you can. Might get some tax fees though.
