Play it NOW! - Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands 0

Run, jump, and climb your way through Ubisoft’s latest iteration in the Prince of Persia franchise: The Forgotten Sands. Anyone familiar with the franchise and its recent reboot will immediately notice this is not the Nolan North prince. Instead, we return to the Sands of Time era, as Ubisoft attempts to bridge the gap between the first game and its sequel, The Warrior Within. Why the departure? In my opinion, this was done to act as a companion to the recent live action summer movie, which...

Play it NOW! - Red Dead Redemption 0

John Marston is single-handedly the greatest protagonist that Rockstar has ever created. The game's ability to capture his personality and simultaneously recreate the picturesque Wild West setting, makes for a compelling narrative rarely accomplished in games. Much of this has to do with the excellent voice acting and animation, making the scenes very cinematic. There are also the usual Rockstar tropes of dialog containing social commentary on American life, but Redemption executes these ...

Play it NOW!: Uncharted 2 Among Thieves 0

Play it NOW!: Uncharted 2 Among Thieves   Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has arrived and Sony is sitting on a gold mine. It is my opinion that this game is the greatest cinematic experience I have ever had while playing a video game. It is not perfect, there are some moments where I was frustrated by the AI or spent far too much time looking for an elusive piece of treasure, but there is an overall cohesiveness between characters and their journey to Shambhala and it's hidden treasure, the Cinta...

Play it NOW!: Borderlands 0

Play it NOW!: Borderlands         The wasteland of Pandora is plagued with adversity, but luckily, I have the cure; a bazillion guns! Borderlands, is not your typical FPS. It is one of many games entering what I refer to as a “hybrid-genre” and as Gearbox would describe it, Borderlands is what you would get if an FPS and RPG had a baby; more specifically, if Halo and Diablo had a baby. This should lead you to a couple conclusions, first you will be shooting aliens in the face, second, you will...

Play it NOW!: Assassins Creed 2 0

Play it NOW!: Assassins Creed 2  A period piece, fictional or not, has always been something I have an affinity towards. Maybe it is the academic in me, but understanding events in world history can bring about a more comprehensive relationship between past, present and future. So goes the plot for Assassins Creed 2 or at least my interpretation of Desmond’s story arch. But unlike the first one, AC2 lets you spend most of your days inside the DNA of Desmond, living out his ancestor’s story. Tha...

Play it NOW! - Battlefield: Bad Company 2 0

Play it NOW! - Battlefield: Bad Company 2        The boys of bad company are back, and they are ‘in it to win it’ in this high octane sequel from DICE. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 comes from a long line of first person shooters. Like its predecessor, it changes the Battlefield formula by creating a story with memorable characters. Having not played the first Battlefield (shame on me), I was not familiar with the returning cast members. Perhaps this was a good thing. Haggard, Sweetwater, Sergean...

Play it NOW! - Super Street Fighter IV 0

Play it NOW! - Super Street Fighter IV   Street Fighter IV was the fighting game for a new generation. Not only has it fleshed out the idea of what a 2.5D fighter can be, but it has sparked a revival of the genre. It is only suitable that Capcom, the father of 2D fighters, be the one to lead such an ambitious journey. Much like their previous installments, SSFIV is an expansion on the foundations laid in Street Fighter 4. Some gamers may be taken aback by the idea that they have to procure...

Play it NOW!: Ratchet and Clank A Crack in Time 0

Isomniac has made a name for themselves over the past decade through the Playstation platform. Resistance and Ratchet and Clank have both become major franchises for Sony and those franchises are some of the few exclusive titles left to bear the PS3 name. While I knew quality was not the issue, my initial excitement to play another Ratchet and Clank installment was luke warm at best. Over time though, I found it impossible not to fall in love with its charm and humor. Playing “Tools of Destruc...

Play it NOW!: Darksiders 0

With the world of man falling to the war between heaven and hell, one mythical being is sent to pick up the pieces. So goes the story of War, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, who in this universe is the protagonist on our journey. Initial previews for this game did not go over well with the enthusiast press, most impressions coming off luke warm. But after a couple hours, I felt it was pretty clear THQ was on to something with the way it builds an interesting world in which the us...

Play it NOW!: Bayonetta 0

The time where Japan dominated the economic landscape of gaming is fading fast, as more publishers are looking to the west for inspiration in design. Sega is one example of this, but their most recent release is not. Instead, Platinum Games and Sega proudly tout that there will always be Japanese developers and Japanese culture reflected in video games. If there is any game released in 2010 so far that supports this theory, it's Bayonetta. Set in a fictional universe where witches and angels ...

Play it NOW!: God of War 3 0

In God of war 3 Kratos is angry. So angry, he has not only decided to kill dear old dad, but to kill everyone on his road to revenge. I want to be clear and say up front, I have played the first two games and was a fan of Kratos. While his methods were a bit harsh, they were justified in my opinion. Now, after the trilogy's conclusion I feel duped. It's the same feeling I had after watching Star Wars episode 1. Far too much explanation in the end, for the trilogy as a whole. In fact, from wha...
