@malibuprofen: Even I've heard my CEO say "ass" mostly to day, "don't make an ass of yourself" and he is the leader of a Fortune 500 company and Gabe being a billionaire, doesn't surprise me one bit. Having someone come out and say something as vulgar as that announcer said, dosn't surprise me that he got a public reprimand. As I stated, he was putting his foot down as a warning to others thinking of doing the same thing. I could care less about Dota. I've never played it and never will. I do understand how public image can be ruined by a simple statement from a low man on the totem pole.
Having to make a name for yourself by spouting non-sense just for the sticker shock is no way to run a commentary during a live event. I've listened to Starcraft II and Street Fighter tournaments announcers and all of them have their different flavors but none have been raunchy.
Sorry to say but Valve has an image to make with these events. You can't just say stuff like that on ESPN and expect to get away with it. Since they are trying to break into the mainstream world of broadcasting these events, they don't have time to mess around. Especially something that generates as much money as it does on this particular venue. That was Gabe putting his foot down wanting more out of their product and image. Blacklisting one guy, who clearly needs to grow up, is the least of his worries. Just like a certain game that got blacklisted on Steam.
@andrew2696: I say good job on that man! that was an interesting watch. I knew the stuff that had happen to him but to contextualize it was a wonderful way for new members to understand how Giant Bomb came to be. Bravo you Canadian and keep up the awesome.
The more I played this game overtime, the more I hate how it turned out. All of the dumb research changing to the online bit, almost forcing you to play online and even to the point where you would have to buy MB coins is pretty stupid.
