@eribuster: I generally agree, but lets be honest that room is a bit prejudiced against that style.
That said, it's just music opinions from mostly people aren't specialized in music criticism, so it's pointless to get to worked up about it. (Even if I'm still salty about Tropical Freeze disrespect!)
Well that wasn't too bad this year. I don't get what makes Nier's music so compelling for some people but I glad Persona got recognition at least. Abby might want to be more prudent in the future, considering music is such an emotional topic that isn't easy to debate.
Although people wishing Xenoblade got recognition are crazy, because that is EXACTLY the standard jrpg fare than Alex dismisses in the very video, regardless of its quality.
You know I've read a lot of reviews and coverage about this game (because I've had mixed feelings about the series) and Brad is the literally only person to describe the music as "cheesy." And he wonders why their best music selections always goes to a narrow style of music.
GOTY discussions aren't even up yet and I'm already triggered!
I know this won't affect the final results but fyi there was a whole bunch of Falcom games that got western releases this year, including some pretty old ones.
As good as this year has been I'm actually having trouble ordering a list, I don't think there's been anything I love without reservations this year.
@grouchomilk: He's not wrong. Star Wars is tired. If it brings people joy, that's great, but it's like vanilla ice cream. People can enjoy that, and many do (it's still listed as the number one favorite of the masses), but it's still just vanilla ice cream. Tired, boring, vanilla ice cream. It's well beyond time for people to try something more than vanilla.
Yeah I have to say it would have been nice to have someone besides Dan write the review to better gauge it's quality. Dan saying he loves it doesn't exactly tell me a whole lot. Not that Dan has to apologize for being a fan, but something from Jeff or Alex would have been more interesting to someone who doesn't have a fountain of love for previous 3d Mario games like me. Granted reviews are not a big draw for the site anymore and we'll hear from the rest soon, but yeah. It's not so much the score (which seems in line with most for a 5 point scale) but it is pretty fawning like the BotW review, which while exciting has numerous and pretty obvious weaknesses.
