Dan if you're gonna let this show descend into carnie shit you need to push it all the way. I want promos, and a suitcase with a pair of handcuffs for those 150 bananas, and I want Alex to show up with a piece of paper saying he's the new commissioner of burgle my bananas
Yoko Taro is a wonderful person with a wonderful list and is also very cool cause he's not above remembering a little bit of translation I did for fun (and to procrastinate). It's humbling!
Personally, I didn't receive the fate of the main Nier cast to be sad or unfortunate, but that's less a criticism of your reaction to it and more a criticism the idea that's just "a yoko taro game". I think there's a reading that has space for a lot of hope, at least for 2B, A2, and the twins. Can't say there's much hope with 9S or Pascal.

I'm usually positive on Dan but I'm not into the renaming thing either (the body double bit was good). It just doesn't feel in the spirit of the fun of the feature. At the very least, I thought the fun was gonna come from the emergent stories and gameplay from having three almost-blind mice running around in a difficult game with permadeath. From having the Bombers go "Yeah!!" when a soldier overcomes RNG and does cool things, like SWERY. From stuff like Abby screaming AHHHHHHH when her soldier gets suddenly merced on a rooftop.
The first Dan episode didn't bother me too-too much, since I thought it'd only last until his guy died, though I was a bit sad since actively sabotaging the game is just making the feature shorter, and I'd prefer a longer feature than a short one. I wanna watch this for months!
But whatever, I hope Vinny gives Abby the OK to restore Dave Langzone, and puts in firmer rules about the character customization going forward. I don't mind seeing the Exquisite Corps crashing and burning, but it's way more fun if they went out fighting rather than hitting the door on the way out. I think the feature can still be salvaged (though the game's probably in a death spiral now, but them "winning" was never the main point) and I hope they do salvage it.
I think Project BEAST is the best point of comparison. I want EC to be a feature where I root for the whole crew and hope they succeed against the odds and against their own not-that-good-at-the-game. For this kind of feature, I'm not wanting to root for some of the crew against other parts of the crew. That's what stuff like Mario Party Party and Steal a Sunshine are for! (And they're great for it.)
Anyways, Heels are great cause eventually you see their comeuppance and when they do it's a great payoff. I don't think EC as a feature really has a way for Dan to get his comeuppance.
Great episode. This entire episode completely mimicked my experience playing through Deep Jungle the first time. And I was staring at a gamefaqs guide when I did it.
