I actually hated the book, i still will read it again since its so critically acclaimed, but F. Scott. Fitzgerald was a drunken fool his whole life and i think that transcends into his literature. The plot was boring, the person who tells the story, nick, seems like an empty shell(no pun intended) and Gatsby is just a straight up fool.  He should have stuck with doing short stories like the Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Like i said, i should give the book another chance, but i really dont think it will change my mind at all..

I was never a big fan, but I guess it was okay. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, though... I can't say much about the actual text, but I thought the movie was shockingly terrible, though most of my criticism of the film has to do with the stupid story, not so much the movie aspects.

It was one of the few books that I actually enjoyed from high school. Definitely a classic.

Oh the movie was awful, it was forrest gump backwards. The short story is entirely different and good, the only similarity is that they both age backwards. If you ever need to kill 30 or so mins give it a read.

I think it is actually a much better book the second time you read it. The sense of dread and foreshadowing in the book is much more effective if you know how the book ends.

Brilliant book. I loved the writing, and the last chapter of the book...incredible. It would lend itself so well to a movie; shame they messed it up.

Honestly, I think that's insulting to Forrest Gump. Yeah, I read about the similarities, but Forrest Gump's one of my favorite movies, and I think Forrest Gump is one heck of a character. Benjamin Button wasn't even an interesting guy. Just your average joe, kind of a scumbag, nothing great about him, and he ages backwards. I didn't care for the guy at all, felt no sympathy for him, was never cheering for him. He simply just didn't mean anything to me. Whereas Forrest Gump is like totally my idol. For the love of God, he beats the crap out of a guy while holding a box of chocolates! What's not to love?!?!

@SSully:
Good looking out. Maybe I'll read it some time.

Gatsby is brilliant, but I do not personally enjoy any of Fitzgerald's work. Just not my cup of tea. I'm more a Steinbeck dude. :D
