That's literally the worst way to use a wheel. There's always a weird delay when using a wheel in third person in any driving game going back as far as Gran Turismo 3 on the PS2. You don't see your car responding to fine wheel movements until the momentum has already started. That's why Dan kept bumper Bowling and overcompensating.
I like using the first person mode where you can see the hood of your car.
To help mitigate the reduction in peripheral vision, you can spread the game across three monitors really easily.
I find it interesting that this podcast keeps bringing up Pitchfork. Back in the day I considered reading Pitchfork as a character flaw. I forget who said it during the Jet episode, but the writers always came off like they were more concerned with self promotion than anything music related.
