Xbox Live Indie Games I <3

I ignored Xbox Live Indie games for a long time because of my first experiences with the quality and type of games that were available on there. And then a few weeks ago Breath of Death VII was brought to my attention and I bought it and saw that there was at least ONE great game on there, so I began to look for more and found multiple wonderful titles hidden amongst the games ... of lesser quality ..
So, a list is called for!
Probably be pretty similar to other XBLIG lists, but the more the merrier or something.

List items

  • I like rogue-likes and I like fast-paced, uncomplicated (let's face it, rogue-likes can often be designed by sadist who think the more difficult the game is to play, the better it it) rogue-likes. I also like good games that are only 80 MSP!

Epic Dungeon is all of these!! Gone are the 50 keys/key-combinations you have to memorize to do basics things! Instead, to attack, you walk into an enemy! You have four skills you can level up that are assigned to X, Y, A, and B. And an inventory you can access by the "back" button. Simple, elegant, and effective.

Well worth 80 points if you like rogue-likes. And a good place to start if you've never played one!

  • The game that showed me the light! If you love(d) NES/SNES era JRPGs, chances are you should play this. Made by a group of people who know how to effectively balance parody, homage and make sure the gameplay is good! Something that a lot of parody games seem to forget about..

    80 points. Go buy!

  • If Breath of Death VII showed me there was a chance for there to be good XBLIG, Decay PT I proved it. The second XBLIG I bought, I fell in love with this short game and would buy the next two games over the next two days (and beat them on the day I bought them).

A good escape the room, horror series. There are flaws, but none too bad that it makes me not love the series and impatiently await the fourth (and final) part.

Part I is the shortest of the three out (as of writing this), but with a price of 80 MSP this is hardly a problem. The purpose of Part I, it seems to me, is to introduce the series with a shorter, cheap game to make people more inclined to try it out and then want to buy the later parts which are longer and 240 MSP. <-- it does this well.

It's a very solid first game to a series quite unique on XBLIG marketplace.

  • A good escape the room, horror series. There are flaws, but none too bad that it makes me not love the series and impatiently await the fourth (and final) part.

Part II is the meaty bit of the series (It's really more of a single game broken into parts than a 'series'. They could easily release the four parts as just "Decay" one day and it would be quite seamless and really 'solve' some issues that arise when the games are played and viewed as separate.)

The longest of the series (so far) featuring the most puzzles and the hardest puzzles.

  • A good escape the room, horror series. There are flaws, but none too bad that it makes me not love the series and impatiently await the fourth (and final) part.

Decay Part I is the introduction: sets up the setting, the main characters, and the question/problem/inciting moment. Part II is the rising action. Part III is the climax. In this part, the puzzles are the easiest, instead focusing on the fleshing out the characters and story and preparing for the final act to come: the resolution.
