  • Given my roots as a lover of RPGs, it was inevitable that this would show up on this list. I know some people don't consider this to be an RPG but, frankly, I consider most of those reasons to be kind of silly. Regardless of what genre you want to ascribe it, it's still a great game.

  • There are many things done right in this game: the writing, the setting, the characters, the story. Even outside of those elements, the world is great to just ride around in. Just watch out for the stealth cougars and the packs of grizzly bears.

  • Ubisoft continues to refine this formula and they get closer to perfection with each outing. There are still some things that bugged the hell out of me (the parkour is still twitchy as all hell and I still can't stand the timed missions) but those few negatives were outweighed by the many, many positives.

  • Well written and acted as well as gorgeous to look at. The knock against this game is that the combat is simplistic and, frankly, it is. But, for me, the story and the way it's told more than make up for it.

  • The strikingly stark look and the way that the game poses more questions than it answers put this game solidly on my list. The difficulty ratcheted up toward the end in a way that I found frustrating rather than challenging which is why this one isn't placed higher. But if you enjoy games or puzzles at all, it's definitely worth a look.

  • Light: yes. Cartoony: yes. Fun: YES! 'Nuff said.

  • The addition of the keyboard breathes new life into a genre that is dying a slow death. Harmonix continues to put out really well done music games.

  • A solid stealth/action/shooter only brought down by Michael Ironside's mush-mouthed, I'm-only-here-for-the-paycheck delivery. Still, it was lots of fun to maneuver around the various locations to pull off the stealth kills or even just to sneak by without killing anyone. I've never really played any of the Splinter Cell games but this one has interested me enough to make me want to go back and get them.

  • In GoL, Tomb Raider has been boiled down to it's essentials and it works beautifully. The game is fun and challenging and has enough little boxes to tick off to satisfy obsessive completionists like myself. Considering how much fun it is to play, the fact that it was cheap puts it at number one on the "Screaming Deals of 2010" list as well.

  • I debated for a long time about including this game on this list. The story is admittedly weaker than in the first game and there are a number of things about it that give this outing a "lather, rinse, repeat" feel. But I love the world of Bioshock thoroughly. That, coupled with the ability to play as a Big Daddy throughout along with the dual-wield capability, allowed this game to squeak in.
