Not sure why Bakalar thinks there's 12 seasons of Jojo's? There's only been 5 so far, and the podcast is already 25% done with the third, so they'll be up-to-date a lot quicker than the "twelve years" he estimated, even if they stick with the current schedule.
Totally agree that Part 4 is already feeling fresh (yet familiar) in comparison to the previous ones. Got a real look to it, too! Really curious to see how the story develops, considering what John said about it mostly being set in this one town/city/village.
I understand where Jeff's coming from. I was a bit bewildered by the ending when I first saw the show too, and it took a repeat viewing to properly process how fitted in with the overall story the show is telling (as Tam and Lucy touched on).
As Zeeman155 pointed out above, there is a noticeable gear shift between the Vicious and non-Vicious episodes. The former may be the foundation of the show, but it's the latter that makes it so memorable. Personally, I enjoy both aspects of it. It's part of why Cowboy Bebop feels so "complete" to me, for lack of a better term. You have characters jumping into new adventures while dealing with the consequences of old ones.
I've really enjoyed this side-arc! Looking forward to seeing what's up with Jojo Part 4.
I noticed this time around that Andy doesn't look like he's actually whistling when he enters a scene. Rather than assume this to be an animation oversight, I shall instead choose to believe this means he's playing his own theme tune on a hidden speaker on his horse, which seems like the sort of thing he would do.
If people want to add another anime watchalong podcast to their schedules, some of the Friends At The Table folks recently started one for Hunter x Hunter (one of John's top 2 animes!). It's been a delight so far, and Austin joined them for the first episode.
