It would never be done (because that game has some *gnarly* parts), but this just makes me want to see some people at GB engage with Saya no Uta.

That was a rough listen. Like, I had to take a lot of breaks from Best Game because it actually made me feel worn down and browbeaten from just listening. Would have appreciated a bit more variety in some of the arguments made for and against games, or good-faith attempts at addressing criticism rather than talking past it.

Funnily I don't actually disagree too strongly with where they wound up. Getting there just felt like a prolonged version of Skyrim vs. SR3.

Thanks @unastrike for fighting the good fight on this one.

In a year with a ton of great characters, I never expected the daughter of one of the evilest members of the Nazi party to be my favorite.

I think the degree of nuance she is treated with, as well the way she subverts expectations (and if we're being honest, what would have been the easy route to take) both within the story being told and within the larger current political climate is a testament to how well Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is written. Hers is probably one of my favorite character arcs I have ever seen, and I honestly really cannot think of any other character quite like her.

I honestly feel like this series is giving me loads more respect for Alex's strategic thinking capabilities. It's a real joy to get to see him shine like this.

I love the idea and format for this series. Especially thrilled with the polish having two producers brings to the table. Only slightly concerned about the time between episodes and rotating chair keeping anyone from developing a concrete understanding of the mechanics at work, and in turn leading to a short feature. I figure that's half the fun of it though.

This series started just on the tail-end of my X-COM 2 replay, so it's sometimes tough to keep my armchair commandering to myself.

Andromeda makes me sad. I wanted this to be something wonderful so badly, and it really does just seem sloppy, in both the ways that can be fixed (bugs, some animation issues) and ways that cannot (writing, design).

Maybe it's telling that the lead writer on this game's big previous credit is Halo 4, a rather underwhelming sequel with a plot that just felt like more of the same, but less polished. Andromeda has the same feeling - it fails to really break much new ground, and the well-trodden paths it goes down have been done before much more artfully.

I read in an interview that many of the members of the Andromeda team had joined Bioware because they wanted to work on a Mass Effect game. Maybe that's why Andromeda feels so much like fan-fiction.

I'm pretty sure biotic combos have been around for a while, though it's weird how the marketing is presenting that system as if it were a brand-new innovation.

Vinny leaning in super close to Dan on that last "Feed my eyes" is maybe my favorite thing that happened all year.

"Everything is something"

"That's true"

What a zen quick-look this is. I'm excited for this game, and I usually loathe survival-type games, but this thing nails the atmosphere perfectly.
