Quality starfield discussion guys, bravo. Backalar talking about what people are saying online and Grubb saying he just didn't want to talk about it because everyone has made up thier minds?? And the podcast jan refrenced where they talk about it has unlistenable audio quality from a hotel room.

Whatever its just fucking insane the amount of time spent on certain games and then just fart out this content. And still no one has spent 5 seconds talking about blasphemous 2. If it was Nintendo or marvel related maybe Jan would have given a fuck but alas.

in regards to that last thing from the emails. I didn't see the tweet so I dunno the exact reference, but that sounds alot like a bit from 'American Dad'.

Steve(the high school age son) is in health class and the teacher asks for anonymous sex questions. And the joke is that she recognizes his handwriting and calls it out and its a question about if the vagina is like a vacuum that sucks you up into it, something along those lines. Also that show gets slept on alot by people who like similar shows, just because they dislike McFarlane, but he had almost nothing to do with the writing of the show, its very funny and up there with 'Archer' and 'Bobs Burgers' for best current grown up animation.

The email game at the end of this pod was really great, gave me some motivation when I had to do snow removal at my job in late March which is a very soul crushing thing.

On the sorry I gotta be negative side; Mike and Grubb can be such Nintendo homers it sucks my soul. I hated it when Ben did it, i hate when dan does it. Christ dudes.

I know games media isn't the same as other types but it fucking sucks that like at least 1/3rd of games journalists are completly beholden to childhood nostalgia. Lots of Nintendo stuff isn't for me, and I get that and just move on but there is such a tiny glove layed on any criticism that comes out of anything Nintendo.

Also there was a time when this site was on the correct side of 'Mirror's Edge'. Glad people can still download it but its a bad game.

@beggary: I agree with a lot of what you had to say. Honestly it just burned me the way it was said in a drive by like fashion of oh how could anyone think that. On a practical level I just don’t care for the other games people present as better options and I do think pub g was important albeit short lived and overtaken by Fortnite and warzone.

I also remember the really lame lambasting of Abby that year mostly over dream daddy. A few people had valid complaints about 1 person getting a game on the list but the same thing happened in 2014 with brad and destiny. I think some people read into and probably rightfully so criticism of female staffers as being neo gaf/gamer gate hold over hate against any women having an opinion. But I remember the trains of hate thrown Vinny or brads way on how people landed on the Skyrim vs saints row discussion, the hate at brad for forcing destiny or oven older Minerva’s den into lists or winners. Long winded way of saying just being critical of a persons decisions or words don’t automatically mean we all hate them or dismiss them. I would have been equally critical of grubb or tam who had no involvement at the site back then.

Firstly this was a really great production hats off to Jan and Jess. And great job to the rest of the staff.

I don't give a shit about immortality as a game, but I think its insane that one person can allow hatred of a game maker, who hasn't been 'canceled' or whatever to disallow the rest of staff to even discuss the game. Its not like it was going to win or probably make top 20, but that's bonkers and crazy bad precedent.

I think the new format works for this staff, I prefer the old style but as another person mentioned it got really weird when they doubled in staff in 2017.

Finally I don't want to be petty but Jess shitting on pub g winning in 2017 was crass and shitty. This site was built by people who came before you, they may have made questionable decisions but its fucked to dismiss their discussions and decisions. I personally think it was stupid that tetris won and have had plenty of misgivings on choices but it was always a staff decision, weather or not they all agreed they ultimately signed off on it.

Sorry for sounding so negative, I really think this was a fun goty, sad we didn't get to see all the weird stuff they would have gotten up to in person but thats life. Really great pivot and I hope this site continues to endure its almost 13 years for me here and I'll always keep up.

@beggary: that's bad ass man, thats a really cool job. I heard him interviewed a few times around then, kinda pre being exposed to every artist via youtube and twitch. He seemed very soft spoken but exactly how id expect him from his lyrics.

@beggary: haha yea you're like the 2nd person to ever make that call out about that reference. I made my Xbox gamer tag in summer 2007 and was listening to alot of casiotone for the painfully alone.

We'll stand together in the hyped for starfield crowd!

@oc92: i havent seen the video yet, but she's made it clear since at least GOTY that she doesn't like racing games, and in the last sgf stream she was like oh racing game is coming time to go pee.

Im not even a racing game fan, but like its not even close to the worst or most boring part of gaming. i love the current crew, but fuck were gonna get alot of bad takes on games and nothing but defense force on platformers. nintendo anything, and all things metroidvainia. Also i love dan(ive spent alot of time on his twitch) but good luck expecting him to enjoy anything with a story that doesnt get going within 10 seconds.

im a weirdo, i will admit it. i watched the first summer game stream here and then later watched it on the nextlander twitch.

For today i watched the waypoint stream which featured brad and alex, and will come back and watch the giant bomb stream, so again i know im weird.

I'm curious what the GB crew had to say about Starfield. Waypoint was negative in a very snarky way, basically wrote it off because it had aspects of No Mans Sky and then also complained that the sky combat wasn't as good as like best in genre space combat. And finally they were presuming that all the extra planets would not be as interesting as the extra planets in NMS and Mass Effect.

Maybe NMS fixed this but wasn't to whole complaint about that game that every fucking planet was like the same just different minerals but the same sky robots came to harass you depending on how valuable the minerals were on the planet. And Mass Effect(which i love) is literally like lets visit 5-9 planets in space and do a bunch of quests and visit with the people but the rest of it is completely nothing, maybe some space mining, in the case of ME1 maybe a space worm pops out and you pick up some tech or mine something.

Longwinded post to say im excited for starfield and hope that they do infact put some cool weird stuff on random planets. Time will tell i suppose.
