i think jeff is misrepresenting some of the mechanics of metal gear survive a little bit. i am about 11 hours in and already have farms, animal cages with sheep, and water purifiers along with rain collecting tanks. while these don't produce very quickly, they do very much help lessen the hunger and thirst requirements. i pretty much dont have to worry about clean water at all now, and with the addition of a smoker in my base, none of my caught food will spoil so that's coming along well so far.
i think his willingness to see the "metal gear" parts of this game were in conflict with the survival aspects of it. he mentioned building a sheep cage and not finding sheep when there is in fact maybe 50 yards from the base some sheep that will continue to spawn every few hours. the game even gives you stamps to place on the map that will let you mark where you find herbivores like sheep, goats, donkeys, etc, and even separate stamps for carnivores and plant life. i think he was on board for the possibility of metal gear wackiness and not survival gameplay, which anyone who has followed this site for any length knows that pretty much none of the duders are into.
anyway, enjoyed hearing his opinion but just wanted to say that after brad was saying he would quit playing if none of the survival things get any easier, they do if you are willing or able to have the time to set them up.
i totally get all the complaints about this game, but as a metal gear stan, and a fan of cooking fake food in video games, i am very much enjoying it. its not metal gear, but i was never expecting it to be.
@cubbielover: absolutely agree! i really hope they don't overlook this one and break my heart. in a fantastic year for games, this game's story is far and away still my favorite. love love loved it!
@braves01: if you liked the first one, or were interested in this one just buy it. It is really fun, and I for one don't agree with a lot of their opinions on it at all. Especially when what they are saying is inaccurate (Ben mentions you could block fire with melee kill animations in DOOM, and you can do that as well in this game which he didn't realize). I LOVED DOOM last year, and I think I like this game even more.
Because you have to move around so much, every battle feels so frantic and tense in the best way. And there are some story beats in this game that just blew me away, really crazy stuff.
