Impressions of RB3 from a mad man.

"Naomi & the Ports" GO!

Still haven't beaten the game (I've just completed the road challenges and rated my 1000+ library of songs) but there's a ton of improvements and a few irksome things in this game

The Good

The shell: dropping in and out of songs, changing the difficulties, swapping profiles, turning off drum navigation and the new sort options make drunk banding waaaaaay easier.

Being able to scale and rotate whole pieces of art make finely detailed yet small tats possible which is a big plus

PRO DRUMS. No more guessing what to hit on sight reads. Here's a pro tip: if you're finding pro drums too hard but still want the circle notes displayed you can set it up with just green and the other pads will still display if they're cymbals but you can still strike the toms with out breaking combo. This is really useful on songs with complicated open closed high hat work.

The Fiddly

Not being able to drop out at the choose your difficulty screen makes playing songs without an instrument weird. I don't understand why I have to choose guitar on imagine so my band mates can start playing. Once the bass player picks bass the song should just go. The implementation works for playlists with multiple instrument requirements but for single songs it seems like a waste of time (I have drinks to mix dagnabit!)

I really wish the game would skip past the score screen after a minute with no input. One thing I love about lips is that it will just go and if I could set up a party playlist put it on vocals and no fail and just let it run in the background till peeps wanted to join in that would be great

Having to go in all instrument mode when you have a 2 guitars and a keyboard seems really weird and ruins my keytar fantasies.

Even if the art editor is fiddly, you can make some cool stuff

The Bad

No more true static Vocals (pitch bar still scrolls)

No Static Vocals in AIM. I have bad vision and trying to read scrolling text from feet away with a tumbler of makers in me is nearly impossible. If I'm trying to play an instrument at the same time its a cluster fuck especially if I'm doing a harmony line since they sit at the top of the screen.

No break down on single vocals with multiple mics. I would love to see an accuracy per mic like you can in harmony mode. This would take the sting out of the absence of score duel since I only ever played that mode for vocal battles.

Song reviews need to have a filter attached so they can be truly useful. I've gone through my songs and rated every good karaoke song 5 lighters so when people come by they can scroll through that list without having to scroll through 100's of songs no ones heard of. Right now that just gives you a fat list of songs in alphabetical order and the jump lists are just the different ratings. Since my karaoke approved list is over 500 this isn't very useful. If I could apply a filter of ratings I could just set it to only show 5 and still jump around the list by artist.

When Players without a profile Jump in they should be assigned one of my stand ins not a prefab (My characters look way cooler then the prefabs) if you have multiple people jumping in and out you quickly get to a point where only prefabs are displaying and having people pick characters breaks the jump in out flow of the game.

 The Ugly

Removing the little shake the layers did in rb1-2 make editing art more difficult.

Not displaying the current color of the instrument you have selected makes you unsure if you have the right settings.

Chest tats can only be in the center of the chest means I can't put the tats my roommate has over her hips like I could in rb1-2 and I cant apply my chest hair

Having no canvas to edit tats makes that process more difficult then need be. I've been editing my art as band logos then applying it as tats because I need the preview image of what I'm working on.

I'm pretty sure this last one is a bug but on the silver, gold and clear guitars they have add art buttons but noting shows. I can no longer make the guitar I've been rocking in 1 and 2 and that makes me a sad panda
