SYNOPSIS
Profiles of the Forgotten is a video game within a movie. It draws inspiration from psychologically immersive games like Myst and Silent Hill, while also being influenced by the American gothic as portrayed in films like Donnie Darko and Mulholland Drive as well as the experimental projects House of Leaves and Marble Hornets.
Follow Jason, a young man who returns to his family's lake front vacation home to visit his beloved stepsister only to find out that she will only interact with him through a computer. As Jason attempts to meet with his stepsister in person, he falls into a series of nightmarish scenarios, including a date with a girl in Pink, a lecture on Gothic Literature, a football game on the beach and much more.
Gameplay consists of chat interfaces, interactive animations, 3D mazes, and pictographic puzzles, all relating and tied into the story portrayed in the live-action video cutscenes. There are no quicktime events or sequences where live-action video is used for anything more than a cutscene.
HOW TO PLAY
Profiles of the Forgotten takes about 1.5 hours to complete and it is recommended to be played in one sitting. There is no user save data, just the ability to start at a later chapter. Each chapter is divided up into two cutscenes and two gameplay sections. Use the mouse to interact and the keyboard to move during 3D sections. Profiles of the Forgotten contains live action video cutscenes which can have a long load time depending on your computer. Please use headphones or speakers for optimal immersion experience.
