Nicely written. Still really looking forward to playing it and after reading the whole text my urge has grown even stronger.
Rage
Game » consists of 18 releases. Released Oct 04, 2011
id Software's Rage combines first-person shooting, vehicular action, and "open but directed" exploration to tell the story of Earth's wretched civilization after a cataclysmic meteor strike. Militaristic authority figures, freedom-fighting rebels, criminal raiders, and twisted mutants battle each other for control of the barren wasteland Earth has become.
Rage: The First Three Hours
If not for Borderlands I might be more stoked to play this game. Borderlands though has given me my fill.
Looks fine, but it hasn't grabbed me yet. The look just screams generic to me for some reason. I will wait for this to go on sale on Steam before I pick it up.

There's so many Fps out there this one looks nice graphically but as far as gameplay it seems pretty meh I need a FPS to do new stuff to keep me interested in the genre these days.
So... Borderlands as a good FPS and not-broken missions?So... Borderlands without the funny?
Rage sounds pretty awesome. On a tangential note: Hey Bethesda, get id to make the next Elder Scrolls game-engine. kthx. That would be awesome. Anyway it sounds like it'll be fun at the least.
How much time has gone by since the disaster?
I wonder this, because most Post-Apocalypse settings seem to be stuck in the 5-25 years post time frame. Set it a bit later and you get a whole different world where Nature has begun some impressive reclaiming of the world. Check out this page with false color (to show vegetation) images of Mount St. Helens before the eruption 30 years ago, right after and today.
This is one of the things that Enslaved got wonderfully right (to bad so few people played it) with a mix of still barren and contaminated areas (though even those had some hardy life that was trying hard to live there) and cities that were not able to hold back the tide of plant life that refuses to take concrete and steel as a barrier. (my favorite line for a review for it " Enslaved shoves a massive middle-finger into the face of every drab post-

@crusader8463: This is what John Carmack has to say about that, and I think he's right, you really shouldn't expect the FPS genre to "innovate".Really where can FPS games go from here?
Many places. It doesn't mean he's wrong though. id games have never been cutting edge, design wise, no matter how technically apt they were. RAGE looks like it'll break that mould somewhat, but then again, not really, RAGE to me reminds me a lot of Borderlands only with better graphics, a nice inbuilt editor, proper mod support and a greater vehicle focus. Nothing wrong with that but that also doesn't mean people shouldn't be innovating too.
Multiplayer will have both a co-op (with custom missions) and online vehicle deathmatch mode. Some people seem to think it won't have MP - it will.
Borderlands set the bar for me. I'll be interested to see how this measures up, and yes I'm perfectly aware of the pedigree.
I'm actually kind of happy the gamestop employee convinced me into preordering this game now.
This game looks like a combination of two games I love Fallout and Borderlands.
Considering how much time I've put into the Fallout games (they're practically all that I play), I am very excited to get my hands on this.
Great article! The insight provided practically sold me on the game.
The game already looks like it belongs into Crysis / Far Cry / Killzone league in terms of graphics, and promises to be like recent Fallout, Borderlands or STALKER games in terms of story and gameplay, yet people aren't excited?!
Oh yeah, I forgot, people these days are more into anime block puzzle games with sexually-confused emo guys in their underwear who look like sheep and run with pillows in their hands.
