Born in Israel in 1981, Ran moved to Ohio as a young boy where he learned to cultivate his love of Nintendo and the Cleveland Cavaliers. After graduating high school in 1999, Ran went on to study at Ohio State University where, among other things, he greatly increased his knowledge of the Spanish language.
For a time, Ran worked as product marketing manager for Brighter Minds Media, who also published his books under the moniker Brighter Child Interactive. Ran then took what he had learned and founded 965 Studios (along with a little help from Jody McLain, among others), a game company intended solely for iPhone and iPad apps for children; educational and otherwise.
