As an Amplitude addict, I tried using the default controls and ended up switching tracks when trying to hit notes. I turned on the Freakish scheme, and my performance improved drastically, but seeing as this is a two button game vs three, i had my fingers cramping up on faster parts. I have to alternate from hitting L1/R1 to L2/R2 to try to prevent that.

Not tried anything else but default yet but am definitely switching tracks when I'm meant to be pressing buttons so maybe I'll try switching it up.

I forget what it's called, but it's LB/RB for notes and LT/RT for switching the tracks. I dunno why, but that's the easiest and most comfortable for me.

Sticking with default. Using D-Pad left for the left note. Wish you can customize the controls abit. Would rather have Up and Triangle for the notes.

I've found Freakish to be my best fit. Clicking LB/RB for notes seems to help me keep the beat in complex sections, and changing lanes is more intuitive.

Still having issues with dropping notes while deploying power-ups, but that's a common issue for me.

agreed with both. Perhaps i played too much Frequency/Amplitude as well, but when i started playing Blitz with the default control scheme my old Frequency habits of pressing LB/RB to activate notes started to kick in. So instead of hitting notes, i was switching lanes, it was annoying to say the least. I immediately switched to Freakish and it felt sooooo comfortable until i played a song a faster paced song then my fingers started cramping (just like the OP). I was wondering if the cramping was happening because of how the controller fits with my hand, or if all of these years playing video games if catching up to my fingers. I tried switching to LT/RT for notes, but that didn't feel right or fast enough for more frantic parts, but there was no cramping when it was happening. Maybe i'll try that again...

Default. I found I tensed up too much while using Freakish and by the end of the first song I felt too tired.

@damswedon: I was a bit too tense at first, but after playing a few more songs, I feel like I'm adapting to it.

I've currently just been playing with the default scheme, but I'm thinking I probably should try out Freakish because there are times when I feel like the d-pad is a bit too "mushy" and unresponsive to handle faster tracks.

That's the "Shoulder" scheme. I'm also using this scheme, felt most comfortable to me as well.

Stuck with default but have only played the game for 2 hours. Going to switch to freakish and see how that goes

I'm going to assume that the accidental track switching versus correct button tapping is a result of just trying to learn how to play the game, so I'm going to stick with that one. And really, I've only noticed that being a problem when I'm using the flaming note powerup, so I'm really worried about finding a new scheme

Played the demo on my PS3 so I could check it out in advance of its release on XBL and I think I actually prefer the default control scheme on the PS3 controller to the same controls on the 360 controller. For the vast majority of games the analog stick configuration on the 360 controller works out great but it really bothers me in Blitz. I tried all of the other schemes but didn't like any of them.

I am using Freakish, but I have this weird fear that I'm going to break the LB/RB buttons from using them too much / too hard.

Freakish for sure. easily the most natural feeling on a controller

Switched to Freakish and doing much better now but get cramp after a couple hours of play. Trade off is worth for higher scores

I too played an unreasonable amount of Amplitude back in the day, and really hated the new control scheme. By the third song though, it totally made sense.

Playing on 360 with the transforming D-Pad (raised) for what it's worth.

Freakish made more sense to my brain, but after ~4 songs my hands really started cramping up.

Default is much more comfortable physically, but it took me awhile to get used to it.

Freakish. My d-pad is all sort of messed up (pushing up sometimes triggers right as well). I was doing terrible with that piece of crap d-pad and now am rocking it out with the RB and LB buttons.

I tried that too with mine and my fingers cramped up really damn quick...which is weird considering I don't have that problem when I'm playing a fighting game. Probably because I'm hitting the same two buttons ad nauseam instead of combinations of four or more buttons.

After reading all the comments on here I tried using the Freakish controls and I have to agree with everyone that suggested it, it's pretty awesome!

Typewriter. On standard controller right now, but arcade stick post gave me some ideas. I have a fightpad around here somewhere that might make switching tracks snappier. There's just no way any of the other control schemes work for me when things start heating up. Using thumbs to keep a beat feels plain unnatural to me.

Freakish here. Should be the default imo.

Alright, following up on what I said earlier, I've now put in twoish hours with the Madcatz SF4 Fightpad and the Typewriter config. Absolutely superb. Highly recommended.

I didn't like the default that much, switched to Freakish and just stuck with that.

@Djratchet: If you've played a lot of Amplitude, Typewriter will easily make the most sense. Just put your index and middle finger on A and B and rest the controller on your leg. Would've mentioned it earlier if I noticed you mentioning it. Fellow Amplitude/Frequency fan here.

The default. I just like pounding the hell out of the those two buttons.

Typewriter + my arcade stick. It's really fun.

I've been using the default. I tried freakish out, but I found I could mash left on the d-pad faster than I could mash LB. Kind of wish I had a fight stick so I could properly use type-writer though, that seems like probably the best way to play.

@MagusMaleficus: I can usually play that way for about an hour and a half before it starts to become tiring as long as I remember to use proper piano technique.

I'm really digging this control scheme. Tapping on sanwa push-buttons with my fingertips just feels so right for this game.

Freakish feels most natural to me, but unfortunately I can't keep up on parts with lots of notes so I had to switch back to default. I've readjusted to that and now I don't switch tracks accidentally anymore, so default is working out alright for me.
