Shannara was released in 1995 for IBM PCs, and is rigidly based around the book series from Terry Brooks around the same concept. Gameplay in Shannara was criticised for being slightly weak, with a mere 10 hour story which grew shorter had you read the books. Additionally, combat was weak as players simply selected between the enemy leader, the weakest enemy, and the strongest enemy.
Story
You play as Jak, son of Shea Ohmsford. You meet a man called Allanon in Shady Vale, and he tells you of the return of the Warlock Lord. Jak enters the land of Shannara, and decides to track down this Warlock Lord to prevent his return.
