Persona 3 Portable is an enhanced port of Persona 3 for PSP. New features include an additional female protagonist as well as certain gameplay adjustments introduced in Persona 4.
Well, speculate away. Looks like a female protagonist, plus the original protag is on the bottom there. Orpheus is also different colors -- I say it's his wife in Greek mythology, Eurydice.
Do you happen to know where this image is coming from? If it's the most recent Famitsu, I can very easily pick up a copy on my way home today to verify its authenticity within an hour or two.
Alrighty, I'll try to remember to go track one down at a convenience store in a while, then. I've been meaning to pick up a copy before I returned to the States anyway. It seems to be authentic since the story is spreading pretty quickly online, but checking it out is enough of an excuse for me to buy one anyway.
@Eirikr: Awesome news. I can't wait to start hearing more info about what exactly will be in it and seeing some actual game content. I can definately see me giving my PSP a whole lot more attention with this game as I haven't played my PSP much the last few months.
@Eirikr: Clearly the most important thing to take out of that photo is the fact that Tanaka will be making a glorious encore. Much like Igor, Tanaka is a man who should basically be required by law to show up in every Persona game from here on out.
@Pepsiman: That's not Tanaka, that's the student government dude/asshole. But otherwise I do agree, Tanaka should be a Persona mainstay from here on out, perhaps leading up to a glorious playable appearance in Persona 12.

Dude if thats all there is to it I'll still take it because I portable version of Persona 3 would still be the best thing I have played on my PSP for a while. And I wont say no to being able to play more Persona more often when I am able to carry it around in my car when I go places.

one thing they must do for me though is update the battle system to P4 standards.
Who the hell is that!? I thought Igor was supposed to only be hanging around female assistants! I can't imagine him being the same as Elizabeth at all, though. And I wonder how they will change the social links if you are a female... Maybe the SEES guys' S. Links would be available and replace whichever S. Link that would have been of the same arcana?
Anyways, they should release this on PSN for PS3 users, I'm sure it would be even more popular that way.

@LiquidPrince: Well, I mean you can S.Link with guys as a guy in the other ones, but I know what you're getting at. :) I doubt any special moments like that will be had in this version.
That also makes me think how the Kenji S.LInk will possibly be full of comedy as a girl.
@FluxWaveZ: Elizabeth is still there to the male protagonist, it'll just change to the new guy if you choose to be a girl. This is just more evidence to me that the Velvet Room and its residents don't actually exist.
It almost seems weird to me how close this is releasing next to Strange Journey, but I suppose the two won't cannibalize each others' sales. Possibly the best news is that if this does well, I can easily imagine P4 getting the same treatment. I mean, they already got a head start on a female protagonist with the crossdressing pageant.
Oh well, hopefully Pepsiman will be able to score us some exclusive infos!
"Persona 3 Portable? What?" was precisely my reaction when I saw this story at Siliconera. Le sigh. Guess I'll finally have to go and grab a PSP now that we've got two Persona titles on the way for the damn thing.
I wonder if this is an alternate universe story of some kind. Nah. I've probably just had Sliders on the brain lately. Now THAT would be a kickass crossover...
^ naah, not alternate universe. based in the same game, only you have selectable main character now between the regular guy and a new girl, s links will be different based on the character, and according to the gaf they're adding more events, new music tracks etc in there as well.
Does this mean I can slut it up and date Junpei, Akihiko, and other male characters at once? If so awesome. Also there better be at least one lesbian S. Link.
Hell yea, female protagonist. oh I can't wait to see how the S.Link work in this version and be a slut and date any guys or better yet girls. Oh man, I can't wait to see how Chihiro S.Link look now since she has a fear of man. Maybe she turn out to be a lesbian.
I just hope this isn't what all the P5 rumors were about. As much as I love Persona 3, and would buy a PSP for this game alone, I still want a console quality Persona game, too.

This is kinda weird. I mean in P4 Margret talked about a guy when she spoke about Elizabeth (the female) leaving the velvet room. So is the female side just a weird spin-off for the hell of it? Also are they going to redo all the anime cutscenes a voice acting? They probably won't be in this version right? I'm also assuming FES isn't in it either.
It is cool that they are making it for the PSP and they have the gender choice, but it feels weird to do it to a game as old and pretty resolute as P3. I feel they should have just made a new Persona game and called it Persona Portable.
I bearly started Persona 3 and was just about to buy another PS2 (old one broke and lost game disc). But if Atlus are doing this it could save me a good £50 ($80 aprox) hopefully it will include FES, and as I said above ^^^ lez action with Yukari! Hazzarh! I really hope they do this for Persona 4 since Ive already seen ER and hopefully that will mix it up abit. But hell it could be another year till it comes out here... P.s If they make Chie a man there will be blood!

Anyone notice that the female protagonist's hairpins say XXII. The Fool can either be the first card in the deck (0) or the last (XXII). Man I am so glad I bought a PSP.
