Yeah I had the same problem... it ended abruptly in mid-sentence so I think it's a mistake. I thought it was a problem with my iPhone but I guess I'm not the only one!

Why's Youkai Watch spelled with a dash? Even in Japanese, that looks dumb.

@video_game_king: it doesn't actually. That's how you do in katakana. Even if youkai is written in kanji in the title. It's quite common this kind of use in titles and ads.

There was some problem withour podcast host so some people only got half of the podcast. Sounds like if you redownload it it fixes the problem. (you may have to do it more than once) Sorry about that, gonna send an angry email monday :p

I know about the katakana, but youkai is the Japanese word for watch. It's not like Kingdom Hearts or....something else that uses the ー.

Stylization. It comes from katakana even if it's written in romaji, in which case it'd be Ō which is the correct form and not using "u" like you did and I do. I prefer "u" since it makes more sense as it's how it'd be in hiragana but can be more confusing for those who read romaji as the "u" after the "o" is only meant to extend that vowel. As I said, it's pretty common. Youkai by the way doesn't mean watch but a Japanese class of ghost. Don't know how to translate properly. It's written as 妖怪. Both kanji have ayashii as kunyomi that have, among several meanings ,"strange", "suspicious", "strange" etc.

And I knew that, too! Like, if you showed me the kanji first, I might have been able to get ようかい from that. I'm guessing this says more about my Japanese ability than it does about my hatred of romaji, since I had to look up とけい to get watch. (I thought it was じけい or じけん, which I hope you can see the logic behind.)

@video_game_king: When you start learning Japanese it's just a matter of time until you start hating romaji. Even the japanese struggle with it. I once asked a friend of mine to read a romaji passage just for fun because can be really hard and it's kind fun to watch them trying. Same goes for long hiragana/katakana passages but not as bad. About tokei i get it. That reading is pretty trick when you think about it. It's not even とっ but simply と.

Anyway, can't wait to play the 2nd game even if I don't like the idea of 2 different types a la pokémon.

You think Japanese Romaji is bad, try learning Korean. The roman-spelling of Korean words is so bad that I actually much, much prefer reading Korean natively in 한글.

I assume this says hangul.

@fitzgerald: Someone tried explaining to me once and I just gave up so I guess you're right lol Thankfully hangul is brilliant and very easy to read and write. I'm a beginner at Korean but the learning curve didn't seem steep for which I was very thankful. I hope I can get decent at it someday.

I was surprised however when a friend of mine told me the romanization of mandarin is actually great. Hard to believe. Too bad I don't speak Chinese (I really want to though :( ).
