Pretty sure Jar Time naming convention has peaked right here.

Yeah, while I haven't explored it as much I'd want to, I've read that there even was what's considered an golden era of video games in Spain during that period.

Speaking as a Swede, we had a major rise in computer literacy and thus game development in Sweden at the time too - with a few locally manufactured home computer models (ABC80/800 and Compis) reaching the majority of all schools, and quite a few homes, libraries and offices, with ready access to beginner's guides for BASIC programming, and then came the affordable Commodore machines like the VIC-20 and C64, which became massive hits all across Europe.

Rather than a crash, I think most of Europe experienced a crescendo in availability and literacy in computer usage at the time. Then of course, many considered video games and computer games to be entirely different things at that time too, and I guess actual video game consoles weren't much of a thing at the time.

Leading video games retailer GameStop saw its sales drop seven percent last year, and chief executive J. Paul Raines sees much of the decline attributable to the console cycle itself. With fewer games to sell, the impact is being felt on the used games side as well, but Raines told GamesIndustry International last week following the GameStop earnings call that he's very excited for next-gen, and he's especially eager for Microsoft to take the wraps off its next-gen Xbox.

"We've been spending a lot of time with Microsoft, but we have to let them take the lead on this, but it will be a very hot, compelling device. They are doing some really cool stuff, and I'm eager to hear them start their announcements because I think the world is going to stand up and take notice,"Raines commented.

Just hearing Jeff reference Goldie Lookin' Chain cracks me up. I had a bunch of bootlegs of theirs but recently threw them all out. They were a fun grounp at the time they were around though.

I would really like to see additional reviews of the same games on the site. I think about Darksiders 2 and how Ryan gave that game a 4/5 when it really is a complete let down after the first game and I agree a lot more with how Patrick felt about it from what he said on the Bombcast.

Oh man, set that TV up as an art installation. Call it "Digital Decay in a Realm of Possibility" or something that sounds more pretentious. When I was at school doing graphic design I always made sure to come up with really pretentious sounding names for my stuff.

@jeff if you like the broken digital aesthetic, check out all the work that Rob Sheridan has done with Trent Reznor from Year Zero onward. His visual treatments have been very cool, along with Reznor's digital corruption-like audio.

Oh and btw.. buying TVs on Amazon now is great. Can pick your delivery time and everything. Probably cheaper than Best Buy too.

People keep bringing up that Sony patent and I can't help but think it's because they can't read: the patent basically describes an online pass type system but with RFID chips on the disk so you don't have to (annoyingly) manually enter keys.

Excellent episode. I feel like I could easily lose several hours of my time staring at that broken TV and trying to make funny shapes appear. Weird.

Getting some more insight into the last year of GB and your plans for games coverage was yet again quite fascinating.

I use Steam's offline mode from time to time and it works perfectly fine.

It's particular only in that it needs you to be online at the time when you enable it, after then you can be offline to your hearts content. Only requiring a check in once in a few weeks.

If your TV fits into your car, you either got a huge ass car or a tiny TV, at least in relation to how cheap big TV's are by now. My 60" Samsung certainly wouldn't fit into any regular car, especially because you are supposed to transport Plasma TV's standing, laying them down on the back could break the glass protecting the panel.

And now i really wonder what happened to Jeff's TV there. Looks like somebody punched it or threw something at it with lots of force? Guess they had a realy drunk and fun night at Jeff's house after GDC xD

I love Jar time. I think Jar Time is my favourite subscriber content. I really like seeing Jeff just answer questions and become part of the community (not that he wasn't before) I just really like getting to know Jeff a little more. I guess.

Jeffs talk of British stuff was cool as a brit myself, just to point out Jeff channels no longer shut down during the evenings any more at least the majority don't since everything went digital and a lot more channels Available, there are still announcers between shows though, as for teletext the BBC SD channel still has a teletext style service but none of the others do any more.

In regards to multiplayer it really does seem like wasted effort like Jeff was pointing out.

It's why players hate it: It feels like a waste of money that could have gone into developing a better single-player game. I'm glad that Ken Levine was like "Fuck that MP shizzle!" for Bioshock Infinite and I think the numbers show that games don't need multplayer to be successful.

This is one of my favourite features of GB, löööv jartime!
