Bombin' the A.M. With Scoops & the Wolf!

Bombin' the A.M. With Scoops and the Wolf: 12/02/2013

Our love for Tearaway knows no bounds, but that's also true of Mario, Zelda, and Assassin's Creed. So many games!

Grab a cup of coffee, and catch up on the day's headlines with Giant Bomb guys that aren't in San Francisco.

Actually I think the UK is the one EU territory where the 360 was ahead of the PS3 in terms of share for quite some time. Might well have pulled back by the the end of the generation though. I could be wrong about that but I'm pretty sure that was the case.

Still loving this show! It's a great pairing.

I feel like the only person on the planet that thinks Tearaway is a completely average (maybe even mediocre) game. The artstyle's neat, but that's about it. Granted, I haven't finished it; maybe things change later on?

Would Brad describe Tearaway as 'Charming as Christ Godfuck'?

I don't see what the appeal of having a camera sign you into an Xbox One or a PS4 is when you can just set it to automatically sign you in when you turn the system on.

As long as you live alone and/or never let anyone else you your system.

Given how Patrick and Alex seem to be the only people that use their respective systems, I don't see why it would be an issue for either of them.

Considering all the "I finally have space for a large TV" talk in this episode, I'd expect much Netflixing to occur through them.

I just imagine Alex making obscene gestures for the entirety of the show with no camera on it him.

@cigaro: Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't input lag only make a difference on a competitive shooter or fighting game? Both of which I don't think are Patrick's favorite genres. Even then, wouldn't the latency from your network be the bottleneck, not input lag? And if you're that hardcore about it, why not just use a monitor which would have response times of less than a third of what you have on your tv? I'm not trying to be argumentative, I legitimately want to know why this is talked about so much. I've gamed on displays with response times of 70ms or more and done just fine.

This! A thousand times, this!

Input lag is an overrated concern when it comes to HDTVs. The biggest knock on the ST60 I bought earlier this year was the relatively high input lag, but it hasn't been an issue at all. It has had absolutely zero impact on my experience.

Regarding game of the year, I know somehow The Last of Us blew through the office without much fanfare, but that might be my game of the generation and I don't think that's an unusual opinion. I'm surprised it didn't resonate much with anyone on the crew.

I really like The Last of Us, but I don't think it will be my GOTY, let alone the generation. You're right that a lot of people think that game is the pinnacle of gaming this generation. But it's also not an unusual opinion to say that game is somewhat overpraised. It certainly has problems. In the end, it isn't the best game I've played in either of the two gameplay genre's it tries to push; stealth and action. The story is pretty good and I liked the ending, but I'm not sure why everyone is raving on how amazingly great the ending was. I mean, yeah, it was good. It wasn't THAT great. At least, I didn't think it was that special as some make it out to be.

About input lag, you can notice it at some key moments. But this is the whole frames per second argument all over again to be honest. Some notice the difference between 60 and 80 fps, some don't. Sometimes I press a button and I know I was on time, but then I'm not. It's not a prevalent issue, but it can be very annoying. I'm actually not sure why you guys have never experienced it. Perhaps you just always had pretty good TV's.

Why do the front page and the YouTube versions list the date a month early?

Patrick is the person that kept Mortal Kombat out of the top 10 in 2011? Well, I've never been on the Patrick Hate Bandwagon before, but here we are.

Anyway, this show has been pretty entertaining since it began, but at this point I think the format has been set, and it's somewhat disappointing that it's really just a "Bombcast East." I was hoping the show would develop its own format, more focused on news and having guests. I'd rather hear something closer to that than the standard what are you playing, brief news, and audience questions. Oh well. Not my show.

The plan is to (largely) have guests on Monday. That was the original plan for this show, but it fell through. We will have a guest next Monday. Any other feedback is welcomed, but with so many games out right now, we wanted to make sure we caught up a little bit on what Alex and I were playing. The Friday shows are always much more news-focused, anyway.

As for Mortal Kombat, I seem to remember winning the argument on bumping it, due to the game's horrible net code and DLC matchmaking issues, especially at launch.

@Vita: It's not that the Vita doesn't have a ton of awesome games, it's that largely, they're awesome niche games but don't really have larger awesome games. So you'd get 3 nice games but which won't have that "presence" for lack of a better word to get truly big numbers. You'd get someone who'd buy the Vita for 3 niche games, but that doesn't do that much for visible sales successes, you know?

Also, Patrick, find that stylus! :P

Everytime I hear about AC's crazy Animus stuff, I'm reminded of Yasumi Matsuno's take that AC is the most Japanese non-Japanese series. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/999440-tactics-ogre-let-us-cling-together/59725510

The shows are fine, but more guests are always great! :D

And good netcode is always a high criteria for Fighters.

Pretty cool of Alex to spoil the end of AC4 with no warning. Thanks for that.

So Alex spoils the end of AC4 in this video. He didn't bother to warn anyone before doing it so I though I would.
