Ah man, this is not the game I was hoping for. Appreciate the quick look, saved me some dollars.

Man, everything Ben and Vinny are saying about Bugsnax is like word-for-word my experience with Paper Mario: The Origami King. Like the writing and overall charm/whimsy kept me going, because otherwise the gameplay just stays way too simple and doesn't challenge or evolve enough. Based on this quick look, both games just kinda strike me as a too-simple checklist of goals where the writing is the only standout motivation for players to reach the end.

This looks simultaneously adorable and boring. I kind of expected it to be more of an open exploration game.

Seconded. I liked the weird japanese/english songs with the fun poppy beats and occasional vidja game sound effects.

Another boring unity game. Great if you like it tho.

Seems like a perfect PS Plus game really. Something you load up to check out but don't necessarily spend money on.

I never did understand the hype for this game then they revealed it, so I really have no reference for what people wanted out of this game. But was this it?

Man, the trailer for this game had me kind of excited, but I'm not so sure now. :(

@meierthered: Having watched the "spoiler-free" section of the QL, absolutely. It's cute, it's light-hearted; it seems like a nice palette cleanser game between all the big blockbusters coming out at the moment. Just a nice fresh burst of silliness, much like an Octodad or a Noby Noby Boy.

It's pleasant and charming, and sometimes that can be enough. I think if it was particularly mechanically complex it would be less appealing to a lot of its intended audience - this seems like a great game for kids, or for people who don't play tons of games.

I dont like to be mean.. but that music is brutal.

I assume its a timed exclusive? Would check it out if it comes to Xbox

The thing that scares me about Bugsnax is that Rule 36 exists - If it exists, someone has a fetish for it. No exceptions.

There are no exceptions...ever. I know that the there is a segment of the internet that will delight in Rick'Rolling me with Bugsnax imagery that I will never be able to un-see.

The biggest question I had after Brad's unfinished is whether the "snackification" of the people (Grumpuses, whatever) had any bearing on the gameplay or story development. Seems like it doesn't affect anything other than appearance and it's purely a creative outlet/just for fun kind of thing. That's somewhat disappointing, I thought it would be a more central element of the game.

Yet another game that lied in the trailer about how it actually looks. It immediately takes me from "oh wow look at this diverse and crazy world" to "oh, yet another 'indie' game with thrown together assets they found on the Unity store for cheap/free"

What's the fucking point of forcing people to buy a $600 console to play your game if the game doesn't look better than the games on the previous console gen?

The game is out on PS4 and PC too. Also it's $25 on both platforms or free to PS+ members on PS5.

It's a quirky indie game, not a AAA release and it's not priced like one. The only kind of mistake with this game was showing it during a PS5 event, because it's not really much of a "PS5 game" as you say.

Oh, also the most expensive models of both consoles are $500, not $600, unless you're Canadian.

I mean the game looks kind of boring for an adult, but I gotta say calling the devs of Bugsnax "scam artists" is definitely among the more ridiculous hot takes I've ever seen.

So I finally got around to this game and I guess maybe it’s just not for me. I’m finding it really boring and it makes me want to go to sleep.

@sweetz: I just platinumed this game and it actually goes some places and explores some very serious themes. The story and characters completely drove the game and by the end I found myself profoundly moved and pondering some deep philosophical ideas about society. No joke. The game actually gets more and more interesting as it goes. I did not expect it. But it's an amazing game imo.
