Quick Look: Darksiders Genesis

This seems kind of cool. Wish they had showed a bit of co-op gameplay. I wish there were more games with local co-op.

Gotta love those horsemen, war, pestilence, wrath, and strife!

I've been playing the hell out of this solo, and as a fan of the series I'm having a fantastic time. There's a great mix of exploration, combat, story and skill tree building that keeps things fresh. I actually wouldn't mind if they decided to do another one of these in this style with all 4 Horsemen. Really weird that they didn't try co op though, did they not have another controller?

It runs great too, it's just a shame how many bugs and general jankiness there is. Hopefully it all gets smoothed out for the console release.

This looks pretty good but Strife looks like a Turian and now I just want to play more Mass Effect!

I'm so curious about why it costs more on Stadia. There's got to be a reason, right? Maybe it's just not apparent. The only guess I could come up with is that they don't want too many people playing it because their servers can't handle it. So make it pricier and fewer people buy it and play.

Does anyone else have a better guess, cuz mine seems very improbable?

Don't sleep on this game just because it came out too late for sites doing GOTY stuff, it's really quite good.

All of the console versions are $40, that's why it's $40 on Stadia. Steam is the only one that is $30.

This looks really cool, I would love to see Darksiders live on in smaller stuff like this, between Gunfire Games and Airship Syndicate there still seems to be a lot of love for the setting, I bet Airship could make a pretty cool turn-based RPG ala Battlechasers.

"You dont get great Glaive representation you know, outside of Krull" laments Ben about a Weapon which was never called a Glaive before Krull.

Traditionally, a Glaive is closer to a Halberd.

"I really appreciate the [...] relatively new [practice] of making your climbable edges have some sort of icing on it."

I'm going to call out Uncharted and Mirrors Edge doing this a decade ago.

This looks very neat so I'm a bit bummed I won't play it.

This game's alright. I only started it but will probably play more over X-mas week while consuming sweet sweet GB end of year content.

Weird that they immediately go to Diablo and Torchlight as comparisons, when it seems so similar to those isometric Tomb Raider games that came out around 5 years ago. They too had two playable characters with co-op, platforming and twin stick shooting.

Anyway, this doesn't seem like my cup of tea.

@leraa: Steam is the only storefront offering the game at $30, all of the console versions are $40 (incl Stadia).

@convox: I kind of read that as a way of being somewhat nice to not come across as completely shitting on the game.

I dunno, parts of this look cool. Parts look frustrating and horrible. I guess it really IS a Darksiders!!!

Still, if this is dirt cheap in a sale or part of gamepass or something I suspect I'll have a lot of fun. But I can't see myself paying even 20 bucks for it based on the franchise and the QL

I don't know if I can find much reason to play this since there is no loot like weapons or armor so there is like no progression past the skills.

It really doesn't help that the dialogue is not very high quality either and Strife is obnoxious in every sense of the way.

I just don't know, Darksiders 2 was the high point and that studio being shut down to not make another one was kind of a bummer since they were on a roll with Darksiders 2.

I cannot believe they still haven't set a game after Darksiders 1's ending?!

Do you have any guesses why? I would assume Google would want to promote their service and make deals or at least meet the same price as other places. That's why I'm at a loss for ideas. Would they charge more for a game to be on their service?

Or are you saying the game makers are charging more to Google for the privilege of hosting their game?

or maybe... maybe Steam is subsidizing the price and Google is not.

@leraa: Oh I don't have any actual insight. Maybe developing for Stadia was actually more work that a lot of smaller devs couldn't subsidize the cost of the extra work. Who knows? I'm just salty that I want to be able to play Destiny while I travel for work but Stadia is stopping me from paying them.

I sure loved the first game. Sure wish wish with each new Darksiders game wouldn't get progressively worse.

This was a surprisingly dull quick look to what looks like a pretty interesting game, deff would have loved to see some co-op

I think they should just have made a regular Darksiders game

Going over the steam sale, there are a number of games like this (not AAA differentially presented) that seem to be well received. I wish GB of either variant would cover them, more.

This seems perfect for me getting the hell out of Borderlands.
