Giant Bomb Presents: Dear E3 Diary: Part 02

The rest of E3 remains a blur, but to keep it real, Patrick spoke into a microphone the whole time. Listen for knee-jerk reactions to games, news, and the show, while taking in the many interviews he conducted during E3 2013.

Giant Bomb Presents is giantbomb.com's home for interviews, previews, and more.

Honestly these Diaries are my favorite thing to come from Giant Bomb's E3 2013 coverage. :)

These Diaries along with all the Interview Dumptrucking and the POV style videos have made this some of the best E3 coverage ever. All those big stage show demo stuff is just kinda boring. You can easily just find that stuff later. But this, this is awesome.

There's something to be said for this kind raw and only mildly-edited content. It's pretty great as a contrast to what you can find almost anywhere else on the internet.

Love this long-form dialogue. Content like this from conventions is great, as you get a really nice Day-In-The-Life vibe.

@patrickklepek I liked hearing your personal thoughts concerning why you're more interested in the smaller games vs. the larger ones showcased at E3. I'm with you on the hippie bullshit, man. ;)

Is Patrick really really spooked or just cold when talking about that horror game? If it's cold, Jesus he sounds really cold. If he's spooked, then it must be pretty spooky.

@patrickklepek I think its kind of funny how you talk about Panzer Dragoon Saga being a "wonderful rpg" but you didn't even finish it. I never finished it either but I don't have as high of an opinion of the game others do. The town stuff in that game was horrible. And the main reason why I stopped playing. The combat on the other hand was awesome even if it was little too repetitious.

Edit:

The tone takes a dark turn at the end. Maybe it's a reflection of your own future and the uncertainty with your move back to Chicago and how that will effect the work you do. I hope you find a spot out there where you feel closer to the people. But for me moving away from the GB office would diminish my enthusiasms for gaming cause I wouldn't have that daily interaction with like minded people.

As a side note. I wish you could edit out the interview parts cause I already heard them and it was a bit of a pain jumping past them and to what your next entry was immediately after.

In any case thanks for these diaries, keep up the good work and hope to hear more come PAX.

Sorry. :( Part of doing this was to learn how to use the mic better and improve on audio production. It'll get better over time.

I listened to all the interviews as they came out, so it was kind of irritating to have to fastforward through stuff I just heard a few days ago, but what can you do? Otherwise it's interesting to hear Patrick just chattering away about stuff.

Definitely found these informative in the same way as Drew's production video (No way to beat Drew's ending of course).

I was thinking how I would have left after the second non-answer in that Nintendo interview, so it was great hearing Patrick's insight/thoughts on how he handled it.

I dunno, @patrickklepek - I personally don't share the uncertainty for the industry. But then again, I threw down $549 on a PS4 days after that press conference.

One way or another, the industry still has people like me who are willing to spend the cash to keep giving it chances to wow us - and when that money pays off in the form of something like The Last of Us, I'm pretty certain in saying I'm not going anywhere.

If the customers stick around - can the industry be in big trouble? Or will it just downsize slightly to prevent huge collapses like THQ?

Like you, I am interested to see how this will play out - but I think the future is still bright.

Couldn't agree more, and as someone who will probably never be able to attend an E3 it's great to get a sense of what it is like to wander around and see all of that stuff. Stuff like this is why I love this website.

I decided to clean up the audio and normalize the levels for my own listening pleasure. The result can be downloaded from http://www.datafilehost.com/download-ef74a1da.html

Uncheck the download manager box and use the download button on the left.

@patrickklepek I think the interview dump truck will be a great way for you to contribute. (Along with a morning show with Alex maybe???).

As for the diary format for the event I really enjoyed it, the most interesting part for me was to hear your thoughts on an interview you just did after hearing the interview. Hope that makes sence :)

Keep up the great work, I hope that the move will give you more time for audio interviews and using your writing talent!

Really. I have to fast-forward through interviews I've listened to already. I guess I won't bother listening to them when individual interviews come out, come the next time when this happens.

I'm not going to bother doing that when I'm running (or driving) when I'm listening to these, which is what I was doing when I found out you left the interviews in again, Patrick. Think about us, Patrick. Don't leave on an irrational note should the Bombcast, TNT, and Unprofessional Fridays somehow not happen this week.

That was a massive dump. Thanks Patrick. Giant Bomb has a gritty look at how the sausage is made at E3 and I love it... As depressed as it makes me I like a cold glass of water in my face every now and then.

Nah, couldn't be.

It's a little weird that this 'cast encapsulates all the interviews, making either one feed or the other redundant. He should have stripped them all out and only kept the reactions, but hey, free's free.
