Wait, Dust 514 is going to be a free-to-play game?

This has made things even more interesting.

I still haven't heard a concrete example of how Eve will interact with Dust or how they will affect each other.

Basically players in Dust will asume the role of the soldiers in the mercenary factions of EVE online.

No, I think he was saying the beta will be free. Not sure though, it was kind of unclear.

At launch it will be EVE players giving DUST players missions/matches on EVE player controlled systems. EVE players will also be making/selling all the guns, ships, vehicles, equipment that the DUST players will be buying/using. If that is not enough then maybe EVE players being able to launch orbital bombardment from their ships on to the targets painted by their DUST team. And that is just the beginning every year, just like EVE, DUST514 will be getting free expansions that will be constantly expanding the link between the two games as well as the game it self.

Just watch this trailer dude:

Was Patrick calling him "Almar?"

The quote under the video says "Atli Sveinsson of CCP." Man those Scandinavians have weird pronunciations.

I get that, but I still don't understand how that will make a difference to universe. Will you have to pick a side and if your team wins that faction gets more resources or something? It would help if I knew anything about EVE other than what I hear on the Bombcast.

I just still haven't heard anything which tells me how I would be able to affect EVE through my play in DUST.

The thing is that we won't know that until the game launches since the changes will afect the player controlled universe of EVE rather than how that game works, maybe they can't predict how factions and the economy can be affected? that's my take on it.

I've seen that trailer and it doesn't explain anything, although it looks nice. However you have given me a much better idea of how it will work. Funny that I have watched several trailers and this interview yet your post has given me the firmest idea of what will happen.

What I think would be good is if the EVE players could buy the FPS players as mercs based on gameplay stats they could see. So the best players of the game would be in demand for missions from real human EVE players and there could be bidding wars etc for them.

It's starting to make sense now - and becoming quite interesting, might have to rebuy a PS3 what with this and the Last Of Us and Beyond

Have they talked about how they're going to be monetizing the game? Is it just the usual weapons sales?

Also, I hate how easily you can tell it's a Icelander speaking English, this guy's much better than most but the accent still shines through.

While they got a bunch of really nice kills, "Burn Jita" wasnt considered especially succesful overall. Theres another Goonswarm driven event going on right now, which is Hulkaggedon V. And as of now its scheduled to run.... forever. :F

I rescind my original thoughts that this looks like it's going to be a complete failure. There are interesting ideas at hand, but I think that it's kind of a mistake for it not to be at least releasing on PC also. I understand that it's probably in effort to avoid having separate servers for console / PC users, but it still seems like a fairly narrow audience for what sounds like it has to be a large game.

I dunno. We'll see, I guess. (Although I still stand by my thoughts that the "fitting" system won't work well to make compelling gameplay for an FPS. It looks like it could easily detract from the actual quality of the shooting).

The most recent one is that several groups of thousand-player-large organizations called Alliances, who are normally vicious enemies, figured out that together they controlled the entirety of a resource mined from moons that is essential in the production of nearly every item required for high end ship equipment.

Seeing this they formed a massive price fixing cartel, called OTEC, to drive up the price of every advanced ship hull and module in the entire game, much to the chagrin of everyone not racking in the profit.

Combined with the effects of a Burn Jita (A massive suicide bombing campaign in the capital of the game), Hulkageddon (More suicide bombing of the main supply of minerals used to build everything), and a patch removing a mineral source from killing certain NPC's, they have driven up the price of most items within the game by almost double.

You can thoroughly learn a languange, possibly even knowing it better than a native speaker, but still have an accent. Even within native speakers of a language, there is variation in pronunciation. It can give you hints on more superficial features like where they're from, where they learned the language, or even their social status, but can't give you an understanding of something as deep (for lack of a better word) as how much effort they put into learning a language.

You're talking about Patrick, right? "We're joined with..."

I mean, Patrick's a nice guy and all, but yeah, sometimes his tenuous grasp of English can get a little ridiculous. I'm sure he's working on it though!
