I'm all for helping them out a bit, but some of this stuff is just unnecessary hand holding, so what if they messed up a bit, they beat the boss. Who CARES how they did it, they got it done just fine. Christ people, it's a game, don't start getting angry at them because they didn't do it your way.

Which persona they use, what items they are investing in equipment, gameplay strategy: are very trivial. They have not died in quite awhile and seem to know what they're doing, so stop trying to say that they play the game wrong. Giving constructive non-spoiler advice is fine, however calling them dumb because they have different opinions than you, just proves that you really are just a dick.

Really? You think Jeff and Vinny are so bad at Video Games that they wouldnt have beaten the first boss without your help? Who plays Video Games for a living? Thats right. Not you.

Being good at video games doesn't qualify you to be a game critic.  But I don't think either of them are bad at games, they're just not great at this game, which is a JRPG.

And yes, I do think they couldn't have beaten Yukiko's Shadow without the community's help.  If they hadn't known to use Red Wall, the boss would have continually exploited Chie's weakness to fire, granting it extra turns.  In addition, without that Senri they fused, Charlie would have been taking more damage as well.

Hey i just wanted to make a comment on you guys using zionga with rangda, it does wrok, but if you want try try using cerberus he has ziodyne. Just letting you know...Also as a side note you guys should really think about using naoto instead of either chie or yosuke because she realy does good against regular monsters with her insta-kills. Also she has a level that is better suited for the monsters your fighting in the heaven dungeon...Just saying.

Gosh, really?  Was what I said that offensive?  There was nothing pompous in what I was saying.  I don't even own this game; the advice the community gave wasn't mine.  I'm just saying, to the people who think the advice-givers are ruining the Endurance Run: without the advice-givers, the ER may have ended months ago.

And see, the fact that they were underleveled made the Senri and Red Wall even more necessary.

If it were your first time playing through the game, how would you know that the boss would be mostly casting fire (and thus know that you should be using Senri and Red wall)? Unless you're playing through the game with a FAQ, most people probably would have the same type of trouble fighting the boss as you described, which is why there's a save point right before you go inside.

Not really. They could have just read a faq if they REALLY needed the help. It's not as if the advice given in the comments are always good anyway.

Anyway,  a good, abeit somewhat short episode. Hopefully, Jeff and Vinnie can beat the main boss by the end of the week.

Exactly!  It has nothing to do with them being bad at games.  This genre tends to be somewhat impenetrable to anyone from the outside.

Here's some advice: Let Jeff and Vinny play the game and shut the fuck up. The boss is dead. Who cares how they did it? If you want to play the game right by your terms, I suggest playing the game yourselves. Believe me, it will be better for all of us. They know how to play the game by now and just because they are not playing it the exact same way that you did doesn't mean "OMG! YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!". Nobody cares if you used Naoto instead of Chie. Vinny and Jeff like Chie and that's who they are going to use. If you can't come to terms with that and deal with it, then that's very sad but nobody gives a shit so go cry somewhere else.

/rantover

For the record, there are some people who continue to provide legitimate advice and have been really helpful throughout the Endurance Run. And those people are awesome. The problem I have is the people who comment everyday and say "OMG! YOU STILL CAN'T PLAY THIS GAME?!?!? I'M A PERSONA MASTA!"

They should announce special parts just to fuse and make it live, so we can help them, every time Vinny is not 100% sure he is doing the right thing, he covers it up with "And a millon of voices cried out in terror" (or slightly changed, but based on a Star Wars quote), it is funny but when they deleted Black Spot instead of Skull Cracker or DeathBound instead of Ziodyne, we could have told  them "NOOOO" in the live stream chat. Anyway, they made 2009 a better year, I hope they start another endurance run after Persona 4 is over.

Why people still bitch about the ER still to this day baffles me. The only reason I watch the ER is for Jeff & Vinny's commentary (I've already played through P4 three times so I already know everything that's going to happen) and I bet that most of the people who watch it are watching it for the same reason. Generally speaking, watching people play games is boring, regardless of how good the game actually is (games that are storyline based are more of an exception, but even then it's usually a mundane venture). It's when hilarious commentary is involved that it becomes an entertaining affair.

@gakon5: If the advice wasn't yours and you have not played the game, I'd say the assumption that Vinny and Jeff are too bad at the game to beat it without the advice of others is pretty pompous.

And take it from someone who has played the game multiple times then: none of the advice given has yet been instrumental in helping Jeff and Vinny continue on with the game.  They have always been nothing more than making things more convenient at best, and annoying both Endurance Runners and us viewers at worst.

@Turambar: Well, I've played Persona 3 to completion, so I understand how these games work.  And I've witnessed the entire game start-to-finish, whether here or on YouTube.  Granted, that doesn't convey boss difficulty, since RPG players on YouTube tend to be savants.

I would also tend to agree that they've done fine when left to their own devices; this seems like an easy game; definetly easier than other SMT games I've played, and Persona 3.  I really like that they've defied expectations, especially when it comes to fighting bosses.  But on that first boss, which seemed to cause more trouble than any other (save maybe Shadow Teddie), what would have happened if nobody told them what to expect?  They might have wiped to a Burn to Ashes.

And I don't think they're bad at this game!  I don't care!  This is the problem with text; you don't always convey the intended meaning.  I wasn't trying to express any superiority with what I said:

If nobody had told them what to do, they wouldn't have cleared the first boss.

I was probably being overly definitve in saying "they wouldn't have," but where is this underlying message of "I'm better than you guys?"  I think I am better than them at RPGs, but at the same time, Jeff would kick my butt at an FPS; I suck at them.  I have no need to boost my self-esteem, especially when it comes to freaking video games.

I've never nerdraged in these comments; sometimes I inform them of what I percieve to be mistakes, but never in a condescending way.  I completely understand why they don't get everything, or at least didn't right away.  It's not always their fault.  These games can be complicated.

It kinda started after the "GET THE TRUE ENDING" action. While that was glorious and needed, and most of us identified with it, now some people feel that they need moar control of the ER. Which is lame, because Jeff & Vinny are actually doing not such a bad job, especially as they are playing begginer style and for the lulz.

I am all for getting the good ending, but if gets worse they should think about disabling comments for a while (say, two weeks) and see how it goes.

No without getting killed a few times before they figured out what tactics they needed.  Back then a lot of us were concerned they would quit if a boss destroyed them and so I think a lot of advice in the comments was a good thing.  But they've clearly shown that they can handle the game now, even if they do sometimes do things like get rid of Deathbound on Tam "Power Charge" Lin. :)

So as I've said a lot recently, just let the guys play.

@atomic_dumpling: I don't think that would help. Hardcore guys would just make a big, 3 page bitch about the last 2 weeks of J&V sucking at P4, can't really consider it much better.

And those who are posting advice - don't get me wrong, it's awesome that you got so hard in the show you actually consider helping and posting tactics something important, I'd like to have that knowledge myself, Jeff and Vinny read it, so they appreciate it. But some need to drink a beer, fall on the chair and loose up a bit, it starts sounding like a guy with a whip on a plantation and nobody wants that. Cheers!

Some our suggestions are meant only to unlock humorous situations rather than try to improve their gameplay through backseat driving.

Example: I think that before they rescue Nanako they should go to the outside of the void quest Game and talk to Yosuke. This will confer no gameplay advantage, but the line is great (if I remember how to get it anyway).

All other Group members should have a Growth ability, because as is obvious from watching the Endurance Run, you pick your team and you stick with it. Unless you get a stone-cold mo-fo like Naoto.

BTW, Flowers for Algernon is a wonderful book. Made me cry. So did the movie.

@Turambar: You're probably right.  At this point I can only think theoretically.  Their will may not have been as strong back then.  I had to go back and watch the Yukiko's Shadow fight to see if it was how I remembered it.  I just figured, if they didn't have Senri, Charlie would be taking more damage, and they didn't have any multi-target healing.  In addition, the boss's fire spells would have continually knocked down Chie, giving it extra turns, which it uses to Mind Charge.

Reading the comments from back then, everyone was saying "this boss is hard, so you should do this this and this."  Did everyone change their mind?

The tank casting Rebellion when it already had the effect was awesome. I've never seen that happen before. xD You showed that boss who's really in charge too. That was a good fight. =)

I think you'll find White Rider useful for some of the enemies in the current dungeon, since they have access to both light and dark. Being able to cover both at once will be helpful. Though for all I know, you might already know this. I haven't watched ahead yet. ^^;
