@ybbaaabby At the beginning of the video you sound *exactly* like Underdog Lady from the Howard Stern Show. Love it!

Hold the phone...Abby read/played/knows about Saya no Uta? That's a weird one.

Feel bad about never finishing SOMA. I got to the mirror part tho.

Agree, really awesome. Only part i found kind of annoying was the chase scenes, they weren't scary but more of an inconvenience.

i had to play this game in like 20 minute chunks, but this is pretty much the only horror game i've ever finished. and it was worth it, it's fantastic :]

also the beginning being set in toronto where i live is cool too

I think SOMA is very effective/intense but the monster mechanic is an absolute pain in the ass, as are any games where you can't face the monster and simply have to run away.

I completed SOMA and actually found it a chore at times.

I posted this in the bug forum - figured I would also post here. This show doesn't have the show name in the video meta. It shows up here, but not on the front page or in the carousel. Doesn't bother me, but it looks bad. Its been happening for these last three episodes.

SOMA is one of my favourite games in recent years. The monster encounters are a common complaint, but there was only one particular one that I didn't like. I do think it's good that they implemented Safe Mode later, though.

Soma actually has a great story and benefits from the no-death mode where you can just enjoy the narrative without the fail states.

SOMA is one of the few pieces of media that had a twist I absolutely did not see coming but as a sci-fi nerd ended up massively enjoying.

This game is so damn good. Incredibly thought-provoking story. The horror elements subside after a while, it felt more like a story-driven adventure for the most part. Definitely Playdate material.

I have SOMA sitting on my hard drive and have been meaning to play it for literally years at this point. Good reminder to go ahead and do so this October, especially with the safe mode taking out the only part everyone complained about.

I cannot stand this game. By the end of it, I stop caring about every character and their motivations. And so does the game itself.

Abbey opened the curtains at the beginning and immediately recognized Toronto's flag. However, that plaza and buildings don't exist. No building that low would have that many solar panels surrounded by that many high rises. Not to mention the snow covering the rooftops in the winter. Just throw in a CN Tower model anywhere and you get the point what city you are in.

Highly disagree. Everything made sense to me by the end. Along the way it might not make sense because you don't have the full picture. Played half the game again after I finished it and everything makes sense knowing the full story.

I relate heavily to the post-horror movie chills when heading to bed. After brushing my teeth and heading to my bedroom, it feels like someone is behind me when I'm about to close my door.

I think the film Abbey references might be Ju-On, possibly the sequel? I feel like I might be ready to rewatch some of the J-horror from that era, I watched them too much back in the day

I'm kind of with him. I didn't hate it, but I definitely felt like the main character was much stupider than he should have been, certainly stupider than the player. I really disliked him by the end. I did like the story though

I always enjoy six crazy frights but this is the first episode where I REALLY wanted them to keep playing. I've seen the whole of SOMA through to completion and would love to see Abby play it and complete it. To see how she would react and what she would think about the story would be awesome.

Stay spooky!

I think the movie with the bad monster in the bed was "The Grudge". It was a pretty scary scene actually. I found that movie much scarier overall than "The Ring" :)

Same! I loved The Dark Descent (and even liked the Penumbra games), but SOMA is something special. And soul-crushing; man alive, it's a good thing they cap it off with the other you's ending.

Fight-or-flight is a single response, not two (or rather, one of the two). It's where your body primes itself to respond to a perceived threat by increasing bloodflow to the relevant muscle groups, preparing it for immediate action.

Which one you end up doing is very much situational and can very well be a combination of the two, and doesn't necessarily speak of some deeper personality trait.

@goukiband: The main character is obnoxious by the end, but I'm willing to let some of it slide due to it being pretty old at this point. I think it was a bit more normal for games of this kind back then to essentially assume that all of the copious reading you can do just isn't canon for the main character to have experienced, or something. If he's in a speedrun, it makes more sense that he has completely failed to internalize all of the stuff you learned or why anything is happening! As such, I'd accuse it of having some of the best writing in video games, particularly for the concept and universe they establish.

The visual novel she was talking about was Song of Saya. It's really good, really fucked up. If there's a safe for work version i would love to see it be played here.

(Regarding their fight or flight conversation)

I remember visiting the Star Trek experiences in Vegas ~15 years ago (basically a mix of live-action sets, actors, and some cg visual FX). There was a moment where a Borg actor appears down the corridor, and your guide points to him and begins to usher your group in the opposite direction. I happened to be on the edge of our group closest to the Borg, so I had a context-free view of an empty Trek corridor with a Borg at the other end walking towards us me. For a split second I could feel my legs coiling and preparing me to bolt. Pretty sure if I had been even mildly inebriated I would have knocked people over.

This needs to take up the main feature section on the frontpage. Love it!

Would also like to see more extended plays of this, either in the original video, or follow ups throughout the week... or if not this, any of the other games.

But if it's a mental health thing and Abby is uncomfortable then I understand.

(though maybe have a walkthrough for some of the underwater portions if they do this for SOMA)
