First time watching this. It is a competent action movie but the middle third is plodding, overall the film is grim and brooding, in stark contrast to the other films, and I don't care about the bad guys so much. However, is it bookended by two great action sequences which really save the film from being complete trash. The self-serious tone is to the films detriment and makes this my second least favourite of the series. I prefer it when this series is a bit more self-aware and leans into its dumbness. Of the last three I've only seen 7 and from what I remember having only seen it the once it gets the overall tone right so if 5 and 6 hit that sweet spot I'll be happy.

For me so far it goes: 2>1>4>3

I'm not sure if it's just me but I can't get this track to stay synced with the movie audio. I use a similar method to @renegadedoppelganger (extracting the movie audio, lining up the tracks in audacity, adding silence, etc.) and while you can easily sync the audio at the start by the time they bring the audio back in at roughly the 28 min mark it's out of sync. I tried to sync up the audio at that time but then that just made the beginning of the film go out of sync, so I'm really not sure what's up with that.

Edit: Yep, the longer this goes the more out of sync it is every time they bring the audio back up. I haven't had this problem with any of the other Film & 40s!

I think the mp3 is bad. I tried to decode it on the command line and there was a bunch of errors. The first 3 decoded fine.

I have a paper due Friday yet I've spent my entire day listening to these guys and watching the fast and the furious movies. I say time well spent.

Is it just me, or is anyone else enjoying these without the movies? It's nice to throw this on in the background, and listen to their commentary while doing other stuff.

For the love of all that's holy, that Predator commentary needs to happen. You can't just casually throw something like that out there and then not follow through.

Back on topic though - god damn can I not wait to listen to Dan watch Fast Five.

Honestly Alex's constant cock teasing is starting to get annoying. "I'm not saying anything" really doesn't spoilerproof anything.

Ok, ya, I'm with Dan on this. This is the first one that I actually think was a pretty solid action film. I look forward to the ones coming up. Alex isn't the only one I've heard say that's where this series got real good. I just never got around to watching them because the first film was soooo bad I was really turned off of these movies and then the second was considered awful and most I heard about considered the third even worse (outside the Giantbomb guys who always praised that movie).

I gotta give it up to Paul Walker too. It looks like he actually got some acting lessons. Since I never watched these I didn't know, but it looks like his acting improved a lot by this point so good on him. I never liked him as an actor, but I always thought it was a shame he died so young.

Anyway, looking forward to the next one.

I honestly don't know if this one is worse than 2F2F or better. I might just put it at the same level of terrible. The Fast & The Furious is the only movie so far that I wouldn't call an outright piece of shit, but simply below average.

Commentary was great as usual though, laughed out loud several times.

Maybe i'm being really dumb but I can't find an episode list for these films and 40's episodes anywhere like there are for other podcasts

there isn't a seperate feed, just the "premium podcasts" feed which lumps this in with every other random premium podcast.

I dunno why but Dan on commentary annoys the fuck out of me. Must be because he keeps on asking questions that isnt related to whats happening on screen?

This movie may be the best out of the first 4 on a technical level and it doesn't have quite the lows of the other 3 but man it doesn't have any of the highs (intentional or otherwise) that make the first 3 stand out. It's just a safe action movie with a big budget.

Plus, I can put up with bad CG but I can't stand the quick shot cinematography that's become prevalent in action movies since the first Bourne movie. It's like a bunch of seizure inducing flashes that do a terrible job of conveying what's happening on-screen.

"Oh you're right. I'm REALLY good at letting stuff go! You convinced me!"

At least ONCE per these tracks, Vinny just busts me up.
