Giant Bombcast Giant Bomb Game of the Year 2014: Day Five

No one was going to make an argument that COD:AW, Hearthstone and Jazzpunk were bad or disappointing games. Destiny is both. Other people shared enthusiasm for those other games, including COD. The closest you have to a second supporter of Destiny is Jeff and his dislike for that game is well documented. Most of the staff felt Wolfenstein: The New Order should have made the list.

Yes, it is a test of wills, but the comparison to a child holding his breath until they get their way still fits.

These are the episodes that got me hooked on Bombcast this holiday season :)

Listening to this series of GOTY deliberations again, and having listened to all of them before, I find it funny that on many occasions people have said, "well I really liked it, but I dont think a lot of people at this table support it, so im ok with seeing it go. Then there is Brad clining to the proverbial weed to keep from going over the cliff for damn near an hour with a filibuster tantrum.

Good stuff, will probably listen again.

nice to hear alex be a dick and try to throw Dan and mario kart 8 under the bus before it came time to judge Jazzpunk to try and avoid the discussion.. All round I find some of these arguments so painful to listen to. Jeff, Brad and Alex are just so quick to become unreasonable. Drew, Vinny, Dan, Jason and Patrick would make a better discussion.

Difficult yet hilarious to listen. The conversation devolved into an internet forum in real life. I think I now dislike most of the games in the top 10 due to the sheer incessant fighting over their rightful place in this discussion. What a beautiful listen though and hopefully next year the top 10 includes a more rigid structure. Possibly a points system that can exclude dealing games for one another.

edit: I do find it disappointing the way Brad was able to defend Destiny and the way the same could be said for WoW. Yet he seems to dismiss WoW easily. Really, WoW doesn't begin until the end game and 5man dungeons in no way give you a taste of what raiding is like. Raiding is brutal; normally you're not only competing as a guild against the encounter, but also against your fellow guildmates. DPS pretty much hate each other, if you're any good. All in good fun though. What I'm saying is, Brad should play WoW.

Can't take Jeff's constant flaming of good games seriously after this podcast. Basically poopooed on almost everything that's not a AAA shooter (zzz) and thinks a CoD game is goty in 2014? Hah. Love Jeff but his game tastes baffle me considering just how willing he is to call so many popular games terrible meanwhile he's pushing stuff like CoD and Skylanders :D

Some real prime ass reductionist jabs from Brad during the Destiny debate. The more in a corner he's in, the more desperate and reaching his attempts to pick apart the other games become. That's the kind of stuff that I hope they get away from in the future.

Also, as Patrick half jokingly pointed out, Brad nailed Spelunky for having to look shit up on the internet, but then defends himself doing the same thing with Destiny.
