@austin_walker: If you have a want for some ship building, Stardrive 1 or 2 are pretty neat and might be worth checking out. Tho they're significantly different in the strategy layer. 1 is real time 2 is turn based.

I started listening to Zacny on GWJ back in the day and he has not left my ear holes since.

Zacny is great on 3MA. Esports Today has been fun too (would like to see him drop an article here about esports at some point).

I was surprised when the latest 3MA had Austin on, and thought maybe I should keep an eye out for sometime from Rob over here, and I was not disappointed!

I love Rob because he speaks my language about strategy games and how much of a rut they are in.

In the not-too-distant future, all podcasts will feature Rob Zacny. It will be GREAT.

Also, that infograpgh article is full of shit. I can play EUIV while blitzed out of my fucking mind and still bring down France, but try playing a game of StarCraft while buzzed and its all over in the first 2 minutes.

That article fails to separate games with a high demand for reactive play and games with a high demand of proactive play. The former is hard to control and get into a comfortable rhythm, even with absolute system mastery. The latter becomes your loyal companion after the first 500 hours you put into it.

Idle Thumbs are the BEAST's playground?

Zachny's podcast on strategy gaming is great. Probably the best podcast in the Idle Thumbs line up.

Pretty disappointed there wasn't any talk about RTS considering you had labeled it as "strategy games" and not turn based strategy or grand strategy, I sorta got my hopes up for nothin'. Well, Iuno, iguess it is a nearly dead genre at this point.

This was good! And the first guest interview that I've really been into. It felt like Soren Johnson's Designer Notes but for critics, and that is good.

If you check out Three Moves Ahead they did a episode on RTS recently that may be worth checking out for you. They discuss how yeah the genre isn't doing so well.
