Kingdom of Amalur is fun, just start out on Hard, and play it like a God of War Torchlight

Kingdoms of Amalur feels like a MMORPG experience.. Still pretty cool but doesn't feel good from a design perspective.

@MrKlorox: I love it when they do spoilertalk, as long as they clearly warn you about it in advance, what's the harm? Catrine is a year old game at this point. They tiptoe around discussing certain game's flaws way too often due to fear of spoilers.

Oh, and that "another take on Catherine" thing was a weird gravure movie thing, if memory serves. It was filmed in a couple of weeks and released right alongside the US launch, it was aimed at americans....I guess. At least it wasn't an official Atlus thing!

Not sure I get the problem with the KoA dialogue...Yes there is an obscene amount of dialogue, but hey guess what! you don't have to play it all! I guess that is part of Vinny's obsessiveness.

More importantly though a lot of the dialogue is really well written and well voice acted, all of the stuff that I have been picking and choosing that i find interesting (mostly location specific stuff) has been really really good.

The biggest problem with that game is that does not know how to reward the player. Nearly all of the quests end with meaningless gold and exp rewards, that only speed you along the short leveling path, making you increasingly overpowered rendering a lot of the game itself, meaningless. Which is a shame because there is soooo much in it and the world is fucking amazing. A bigger level cap would have helped I think.

They don't like the weapon specialization in Skyrim? Man, they already streamlined the hell out of that aspect compared to Oblivion and Morrowind by lumping all one-handed weapons into one category. Last time I checked, an axe and a longsword are pretty fucking different. It adds depth. It also gives me a reason to roll multiple characters. If I could use every weapon effectively, then what's the point?

I still honestly enjoyed the puzzles in Catherine. They did a good job of adding new elements and ramping up the difficulty.

The weapons never acted differently in Oblivion. Oblivion's combat had 0 depth, especially the weapons which were all identical other than the skill making you better at some. How can you bring up Oblivion talking about the DEPTH OF ANYTHING??? Even the water is shallow.

But seriously, hacking a guy with an axe? Pretty similar to hacking him with a sword. The only difference is swords are easier to hit the blade on the target, but axes are more effective when they hit. And maces are probably the easiest to use because orientation isn't important. You can rotate that z axis allllll dayyyyy longgggg. There are complex differences, but they are almost impossible to simulate with a game controller. Ever hit a log with an ax at the wrong angle? You can't really do that in a video game.

And if you bring up the differing effects of those weapons on various targets (unarmored, soft armor, rigid armor) but those always are true regardless of how advanced your skill is with the weapon. Maybe you could argue that targeting weak points in armor lets you bypass rigid armor more easily with a sword or axe, but that's pretty simple shit. Also tricky in a game, at that point third person almost goes out the window.

Basically I think it works in Skyrim, because you aren't constantly getting new loot, but in a game with lots of unique/differing loot popping up frequently I also understand not wanting to deal with that sort of shit. It does get disappointing. It was one thing I didn't like about Barbarians in Diablo, I ended up only using one kind of weapon the whole time.

Actually Catherine was released last week in Europe, so it's actually a pretty huge dick move to a big part of the audience.

I imported a US copy last year so I was in the clear, but geez.

The Five Guys by me also has one of those touchscreen Coke machines with a thousand different flavors, and it is indeed awesome... until you get some flabbergasted old person in front of you who has no concept of what he or she is looking at, and you have to either help them out or wait a good five minutes. It happens to me far too often.

Also this is not a big budget title. I'm sure that 90% of people who wanted to play it already have. Seeing as how it came out 6-7 months ago.

I'm still waiting for an endearing Patrick moment to justify the tolerance some people show for him. I haven't properly been able to stand a full bombcast in quite a while :/

Gotta say I'm a little disappointed for Jeff not being down with Retro Studios. I'm not a huge fan of Metroid Prime 2 but even that was a quality game. One of the best developers today.

"You cannot be serious" Virtua Davis. I expect JohnnyMac to be as annoying on Grand Slam Tennis 2 as he is in real life. The funny things is that Cash and Mac almost never commentate on ESPN they are from Tennis Channel. Wish the game had some real tennis espn commentators like Cahill, Gilbert, Patrick McEnroe (John's brother) and Mary Joe Fernandez.

@sofacitysweetheart: Yeah. As much as I hate to admit it. The Bombcast has been all around less enjoyable ever sice Patrick came into the picture. I thought it was one of those things that would get better with time, but something about Patrick throws the group Dynamics off. To be honest Patrick was the reason I stopped listening to the G4tv podcast (what were the odds of him coming to the last website I care about?). Maybe, it's just because he's so young (I think he just turned 28 or something) and is beating me to the altar (and probably getting laid tonight to boot). Also, It really rubbed me the wrong way that he didn't know about the movie "After Hours" . At this point I can just hope Patrick is able to leave Giant Bomb to pursue bigger and better things. In the mean time if he would please stop talking about his fiance every chance he gets, it would be really appreciated. That being said I have nothing personal against Patrick. He seems like a nice talented young man altogether. It's just chemistry.

I stopped playing Darksiders at one point where it seemed like it got WAY TOO HARD for where i was at in the story. I came back to it months later and beat it and got some machine guns or something but I lost the groove at that point and never continued. I guess I should keep going but I find it weird no one else has ever mentioned this part. Am I just bad?

I feel bad for anyone learning about the Vita exclusively through Giant Bomb and the Bombcast. Sony hasn't been the best with telling people everything you can do on Vita but there is also lots of misinformation on this cast that, if I already didn't know the answers, would be super confused about. Not saying it's the crew's fault though, the system isn't really technically out yet.
