Giant Bombcast 07-16-2013

Bombcast! continues with some bootleg high-pitched music, video games to play when you barely feel like playing video games, and... Dota 2. Yeah, again.

The Giant Bombcast is the world's most beloved video game podcast, and now it's available in video form.

I agreed on most of their cereal discussion, except they confused Golden Crisp with Honeycomb. Sugar Bear is on the Golden Crisp box, they are basically the exact same as Sugar Smacks which have a frog dude on the box. That and Coca Pebbles are the best chocolate cereal but they seemed to get no love.

I'm not finished yet, do they talk about Last of Us? These bastards need to play that game nowish, I felt like I dragged my heels cause I didn't start playing it til 4 days after release cause I wanted to beat some other games first. It is def game of the year, I can't see GTAV or any of the Next Gen launch games beating it.

Considering the likes of Uwe Boll (especially), Michael Bay and Adam Sandler make a TON of their money overseas, we seem to be in fine company.

Your just out of the cereal loop Jeff, Trix is back to being just the balls. And there are new cereals all the time. Chocolate Krave is a good one.

This is how I personally feel about Saints Row III, and I'm sure Jeff would disagree, but I honestly feel that Russian Woman Voice is almost canonical. SR3 is just too damn silly of a game to play as a character that has a macho-manly serious voice like the thousands of other crime games out there that are on a different "cinematic" level. But a Russian mafia-sounding female? Fuck yeah!

No, I am not saying I fall into typical "Derp'merica" classification, but I am saying that a well-funded marketing campaign for a light, schlocky Adam Sandler comedy vehicle will almost always triumph over anything else here. It offends nobody except sterile, wine connoisseurs who only go to see "films" anyway.

It's funny, because he's using Pacific Rim to make this point. Pacific Rim, while endorsed by Jeff and Vinny, and a fun action film, is pretty much a giant, plotless CG combat spectacle in the vein of Transformers.

It's not identical schlock to Grown Ups 2, but it is the OTHER kind of schlock Hollywood churns out most of the time.

I admit its dumb, but I've been sucked into the Steam trading card thing. If you use the marketplace wisely to buy and sell cards, you never really have to put a cent of real money into it. I've made 17 badges and had about 7.50 steam bucks left over that I've spent on games, without spending any money. It's a weird virtual economy...all this non-existant money floating around...no surprise that Valve has economists on the staff....

I this Vinny should host the podcast. I thought he did a great job during the Hotspot days. I thought no one could host the Hotspot after Rich Gallup and he proved me wrong.

Master of Orion 2 is still astoundingly intuitive for a 4X game that came out in '96, so maybe Drew was talking about the first one? In any case, Endless Space isn't a bad choice if you want a 4X game that isn't overwhelming.

You can definitely hear the pain in their voices throughout this podcast. It'll take a long time until things feel like they are back to normal.

Instead of printing out the game guides GB crew, why not just do what I do which is buy a small box of index cards? Easy to note game stuff on & easy to toss when done with them.

The mashed potato taco came up on the podcast this week. Here are my adventures with this very item several months ago. It was delicious with the special touch of Sriracha!

Gonna guess you haven't seen it, cause the two movies, despite both involving giant robots, could not be more different in terms of things like tone, plot consistency, quality of dialog and characters, etc. But yeah, those trailers sure make 'em look similar.

Thank you for continuing the podcast. I know it's hard with the loss but you have done an amazing job. I was a bit wary at first of coming back since there are so many memories that will remind us all of Ryan...

However, he would have been proud and I am proud too to have followed the crew from gamespot => giantbomb => giantbomb/gamespot.

Kudos from a real fan.
