This game was my game of 2020. The sheer amount of power you can get from tinkering with the right wands + the ease of just getting one-shotted by almost anything is so torturous but fun!

There's probably some key mechanics that would be super helpful to know and the game explains none of it. You can rinse stuff off yourself by spraying a potion directly above you. So water will wash off the sludge. Or you could just jump in a pool of water. Same w being on fire. You can refill potion bottles w whatever liquid you're standing in.

There is an alchemy mechanic in the game (also not explained). The most basic example is if you pour water on toxic sludge, it'll convert it into water.

My biggest annoyance with this game is it has "secrets" which are virtually impossible to find organically, but otherwise I think it is pretty fun. Learning how to abuse the wand mechanics is super fun.

Great fucking game.

Here’s something I found out hours and hours into it: you kick things in the direction of your cursor. You can also control the power of the kick by how far the cursor is from your character; very helpful when trying to move explosives etc around the level.

I hope that Jeff sticks with the game long enough to see exactly how big the game is. I think there's more optional biomes than there are main areas that you need to get through to clear the game. And that's not even getting into the repeating parallel worlds when you dig through the extremely dense rock at the world's edges

fake edit: changed my mind to "i hope he sticks with the game long enough to find an always-cast nuke wand"

For anyone getting into the game, https://noita.gamepedia.com/Guide_To_Wand_Mechanics is a really good primer to how wands in the game work. It's such an important part of the game to understand how to identify good wand stats and how to get the most out of spells/projectile modifiers. For instance, jamming as many spells as you can onto a wand sometimes isn't as ideal as you'd think, since many spells confer +cast delay, +recharge time. Sometimes just sticking a single spell onto a wand that has very short cast recharge times (or better yet, throwing drills/chainsaws that confer -cast delay, -recharge time) can lead to unexpectedly devastating damage output.

...and then you can check out https://noita.gamepedia.com/Advanced_Guide_To_Wand_Mechanics and get thoroughly confused by how wand crafting works for a second time.

Great little game to watch. It takes Worms to a next level. But yeah, it definitly takes some time to understand how the wand building works and sadly the more straight-forward a wand is, the more useful it tends to be. But chaos is fun so it sometimes feels a bit like you're either going for fun or you're going for a serious run.

My favorite build so far has been a wand with always cast rain cloud with Breathless and Faster Swimming perks. I just flooded everything.

Best way to get grips with this game is to save scum. This lets you learn quickly things that work and things that don't work. Another thing is to get as much gold in early levels as you can so you can reroll the perks to be better. That said, I have 50 hours on Noita and have beat it legit only once, so I might not know what I am talking about.

Love that we got more Noita coverage, it's such a good game and very fun to watch. Had my best ever run last night while doing the daily run, pretty sure I got to the final level before the boss.

Good luck in there, Jeff! I beat it in December, so can you!

PS: Invisibility Perk is your friend

edit: Personal Gravity Well is also your friend (it makes projectile/homing attack enemies kill themselves and allows you to worry more about evasion than aiming). Horseshoes and Handgrenades!

One more hot tip that was kind of covered by someone above but I want to stress it in case Jeff glances over the comments (because Noita is a wonderful game but brutally hard, but some tricks go a long way): a flask of water is your best friend on the first level (and honestly rest of the game), make puddles to kill those devil dudes for 2x as much gold, convert toxic sludge into regular water, pour on yourself to quench fire or rinse bad liquids off, make a rock barrier on top of lava, it's very versatile!

Spoiler tag for people who are concerned about mechanical spoilers!

I'm super here for more Jeff + Noita content!

Oh also, with your starting wands, swap the spells between the two, so the spark bolt is in the stubby one and the bomb is in the longer one. You're welcome!

Oh another little tidbit: Modifier spells have a blue border. Something like Bifurcation or double spell. Those impact the spell placed in the slot to the right in a non-shuffle wand.

The difference between a non-shuffle wand & a shuffle wand, is that positioning of the spells shuffles around in a shuffle wand (hence the name), which means that you can't really decide to have this one specific spell act in this one specific way.

Another tip for @jeffgerstmann if you don't start with a water flask then make sure to empty it and fill it with water. You do that by equipping it and stand in water and it should naturally start filling the empty flask. Don't hold "down" otherwise your character will just drink the water. Always have a water flask to put yourself out if you catch fire or to dilute toxic sludge and turn it to water. I also play with the "change spells whenever" mod, it seems more how the game should be naturally. Another tip, always play defensively, especially on the later stages where enemies have fuck tons of health and can deal out damage super fast. Also don't be afraid to explore the top side before entering the cave, there are things to discover.

And hell yes this games hard, after maybe 150 hrs I'v gotten to the last stage maybe twice lol, but it's such a fun game to play I don't care if I can't beat it consistently.
