That Eva stuff humanized Snake for me more than anything else in the series up to that point. It was the first time I thought of a Snake as a man.

I think that's why I like Big Boss more than Solid Snake in the grand scheme of things. Big Boss is a dude with a history of war, and the PSP games expand on his humanity as he builds up his crew. He's got loyalty to the Boss, and he has loyalty to his fellow soldiers. And the stuff in Ground Zeroes where his base gets raided showed his pain and sorrow.

Solid Snake is 100% a weapon, with a couple conversations with Meryl and a past with Campbell. He has a friend in Otacon, but he's more of a lone wolf bad ass. With fucking amazing secret handshakes.

Oh yes.

I was just thinking why there were sentries waiting for Drew near the waterfall because when I played the game there was no enemies there. Only then did I make the realization that it's because Drew didn't remove the transmitter from Snake.

Eleven episodes in and he finally learns how to play Metal Gear. Tranq EVERYONE.

What secret did Dan point out to Drew around 38 minutes into this video? After tranquilizing that soldier against the Humvee?

I know some people who literally stopped playing this game when you have to drag EVA around after the coolest fucking sequence in video games. Drew has struggled a ton with some of the more, uh, simple, sections of the game - I really hope he doesn't get too frustrated with the final bits. It's a really good game, but those final segments are a sudden uptick in annoyance/difficulty.

@rachelepithet: Snake's one-eyed First Person View mode.

It utterly boggles the brain that, eleven episodes in, and Drew still does camo by running into an area, selecting a camo while standing up, and then running around the entire area standing up, never looking at it again. Why even bother selecting a camo if you're going to run around standing up the whole time?

Eleven episodes, multiple explanations, multiple demonstrations of how it works, even using it successfully against The End, and he still just does not understand camo in the slightest, or is just willfully forgetting. At least he's compensating by just tranquing everyone.

Always makes sure to shake down those bodies, though.

I wonder if he'll figure it out by MGS4? I get a sense he won't use anything except the tranq gun for pretty much all of MGS4 after seeing how overpowered it is.

@rachelepithet: The right side of the screen is shaded black and blurry in first-person view because Snake can no longer see out of his right eye.

On the right side of the screen in first person view after the torture cutscene segment he can't see from his destroyed eye so that side of the screen is blackened a bit to simulate seeing from his left eye only.

That was a great episode. Another great tip for some funny dialog is to put on the Croc Cap, then call everyone. Taking care to call Eva last. You need to make sure she's available for Codec calls, but I think Drew is at a point now where he can no longer do that.

I am very happy to get to see the Russian Glowcap dialog on the show. I love how you can hear them talking about Snake in the background.

Drew was pissed. I mean I was screaming at the screen, but I understand him not knowing how to use the revival pill. And Dan was surprisingly patient.

Good on them both.

Tranq gun addiction makes MGS games absurdly easy, but slightly dull.

I guess Drew is so frustrated at everything that it's a good idea for him to use the simplest mechanic that the game offers. Can't blame him at this point.

I just hope they don't miss out on all the absurdly cool stuff you can do in MGS4, like rear naked chokes and side rolls and stuff. There are soooo many things.

Also, the grenade throw into the liquid fuel tank was heroic. :D

Seems like they both forgot about the camo index halfway through. Drew kept getting seen from across the hangar running around at negative 20 percent.

Hmmm I wonder if Dan and Jason even know about the sneaking suit or the maintenance suit. But Drew got through the c3 sequence relatively easily anyways.

Sucks they didn't get the Sneaking Suit, it's this games equivalent of Body Armor and can be worn for the rest of the game pretty much.

The sneakingest of missions.

Took a break from my MGS 3 playthrough and now I'm back at it and Drew and I are neck and neck.

I just finished MGS3 on Vita (which was pretty fucking hard; not meant for such a cramped space and less two triggers and stick buttons) and need to get it off my chest before they wrap this up (ETA ~2 weeks?) Spoilers for the ending of MGS3:

Having beaten it before I knew the Ocelot reveal was coming, but goddamn is it stupid... again. I wonder when Kojima decided Ocelot was to be a demigod of unnatural power and spycraft. I can't wait to see Drew react to a third Ocelot reveal... and to see how Scanners-esque his head explosion will be when he hears the word "triple-crossing". No man can write, edit, say, record and produce that word without knowing how abso-fucking-lutely ridiculous it is.

@ch3burashka: I think a lot of people, such as yourself, really exaggerate how "abso-fucking-lutely ridiculous" the series apparently is. The only "Metal Gear" game I would give that title to would be Revengeance. MGS is just weird, not ridiculous.

@redfox742: He knows, he simply cannot be bothered going into the menu. Kinda like he thinks it wont make a difference.

I'd be more entertained by watching him eat something new every week, something stupidly common that he's avoided for whatever reason.

Would you say it's a ... cliff hangar?

MGS4 is a lot easier, it's super super linear, a few chapters are basically just corridors or on rails. It is piss easy, has the least creative about it and is most like a modern day shooter. It also is the one with the least amount of gameplay, you'll literally be watching more than you are playing, sometimes it feels like hours at a time.

I didn't like MGS3 but my god 4 is THE WORST, that is of course if you don't count Ground Zeroes.

@venekor: That is incorrect: on average, play-throughs of MGS1 and MGS2 both have less gameplay time than MGS4. Additionally, the cutscenes in MGS4 make up on average 44% of the overall playtime, which is only slightly more than MGS2's cutscene ratio.
