Metal Gear Scanlon: 4 - Part 14

This game is absurd but that's kinda what makes it fun to watch. Unless they've been holding a lot back I'm under the impression MGS V plays it a little straighter. People have been pointing out how little Snake speaks in V so.. maybe we can expect less cutscenes? I'm also wondering how Kojima can serve up the same twists and turns previous games have dished out when people deep into the series (should?) already know what happens at least in general terms.

In any case, I really hope Metal Gear Scanlon continues when MGS V comes out. I think I'd rather just watch it being played through that play through it myself.

The dramatic scenes in this game are unbearable.

I hate that stuff with Johnny and Mei Ling. She's a Navy Captain for crissakes.

I'm only getting a green screen, or a stuttering one. I mostly watch videos using the GB video buddy, so I thought it was a problem with that at first but nope. I tried changing the video quality and everything. Guess I'll wait then.

Would have liked to see Drew look in Drebins shop and use up some of his points... Or just try to upgrade some of his weapons.

I really need to find a cheap PS3 so that I can go and play all these MGSes myself. But I'm broke!

Drebin is the devil. Sriously listen to his converstations it all fits.

I'm not sure if it works here but I always use a stun grenade to knock out Meryl in MGS1.

Love how Dan thinks going to Pax is a chore... must be a nice life.

The iPod I've mentioned a few times has some fun uses. Several of the songs have special effects on the enemies and on Snakes status. If you play that Anime song and open up the menu, Sunny will sometimes be dancing in the video feed in the corner, just like the Beauties do in the White Room.

Twisted, but determined to stop what became SOP and the war economy. Raiden was an exercise in nature v. nurture. Not the most effed up thing that's happened.

The whole franchise has a complex/weird/discordant relationship with a lot of its villains. After MGS 1 and 2 we're treated to numerous plots that are supposed to make us sympathize with Ocelot, for instance.

Man, this game series is unbelievable. Thank you Dan and Drew, thank you so much.

The B&B squad are basically everything that's bad about Metal Gear condensed. Obtuse mechanics? Check. Obnoxious, drawn out, melodrama? Check. Heavy handed delivery of it's message (War is bad you guys! Here's Drebin monologuing about it if you weren't paying attention to every other scene in the series!)? Check. Flagrant sexism? Check.

Metal Gear has had mechanically interesting boss fights. It has had good drama and character moments. It has expressed it's message eloquently (as an aside, I really respect Kojima's consistent anti-war message in a medium full of works glorifying it). And it has had really good female characters.

But it's also absolutely riddled with those negatives that I mentioned and the B&B squad are the distilled form of that. I could probably write a whole essay on how MGS is at turns really great and really fucking abysmal on all four of the points I raised.

@wagrid: I hope you listened to the newest Beastcast where they talked about basically all of your salient points!

@meauntienora: I did listen to it and they did talk about all of that! I identified pretty much entirely with Austin's conflicted feelings on the series.

Was there a reason they didn't just try to sink the boat?...

The boat infiltration was the worst part of the game for me.

you mean the thing the size of a large city equipped with nukes that they were firing the entire payload from their warship at? Yah...That worked great

MGS 4 Part 15

I forgot how good the audio is in this game. Everything from the synced up soundtrack to missle launches from Outer Haven to the rad ambient klaxon noises when they land. So good.

The video pauses a few seconds in and then stop. Can´t watch anything but those seconds. Something must be wrong. :(

I was able to watch it fine. Switching from HTML5 to Progressive, or vice-versa, will usually solve that problem when you encounter it though.

I have no idea what naomi's motivation was.

The HD version of this video is definitely busted. It'll play using Progressive mode, but it starts glitching real bad about twenty minutes in. Switching to High quality fixes it and also allows for regular HMTL5 playback.

I get all kinds of weird black screens (sometimes audio plays...sometimes nothing loads) on all these old MGS vids. =(
